    Bases = suckage. I don't collect LladrĂ³.

    I wonder how many western toys are sculpted by hand and how many are rapid prototypes.

    Not to siderail, but it amazes me how long it takes to get stuff into production. I met Travis Louie when Martin Ontiveros had a show in Seattle (Louie had an opening a few blocks away). Martin was signing an Ojo & we were gabbing about toys. Travis said he was talking to someone about getting a toy out. That was at least a year ago.

    Back to SDCC.....

    "8 inch tall resin statue of Travis Louie's indomitable "Uncle Six Eyes". Sculpted by Scott Wetterschneider. Release 2009. Prototype can be seen at SDCC. Travis has a new book coming out titled "Curiosities" with Baby Tattoo Books. Visit Travis's site www.travislouie.com "

    Yes, Uncle Six Eyes is a statue. We want to see how well he is received before taking the plunge with an articulated vinyl, because it's painfully expensive to do big and to do right. Working with Travis went smoothly and he was helpful and supportive every step of the way, so we're hoping this guy goes over well.

    This project went fairly quickly, we talked to Travis in April to see if he was interested doing something based on his paintings, and began the production June 1st.

    That's fairly standard for something like this, there's a lot of communication and groundwork to set up the relationship with the artist, before the sculpting can even begin. And at the same time, we were producing Jeff's Seeker, Ryniak's and J. Crap's "Misfortunate Travelers" and some other blasted item that isn't public yet and it's driving us mad with anticipation.

    As for sculpting digitally and then printing the models, that's how we do some of the pieces. Some get printed then worked on manually, some get done purely by hand. It's a combination of what we think is the right tool for the task and the wishes of the artist involved.

    amazing sculpt. vinyl might be nice, but no need for articulation. best toys dont have it!!!
    ...just leave off "silly" base plate!!! :twisted: ;)
    a little bid more edges, roughness would make it resemble travis art even better imo.

    great to see favorite art, music and toys getting connected...
