With Rich's permission and David's incredible art work (huge thanks to both), I had R.E.Load make me a messenger. I am extremely happy with the outcome both from a graphical and functional standpoint. Snapped this shot while out on a ride and thought you all might like to check it out. The green is closer to the original art in person but it's high visibility thread and reflects light quite well so it always washes out a bit in photos. Here is David's design
That looks really great. You mention the green is thread, so is it all embroidered? That is a seriously awesome bag!
It' a combination of appliqué and embroidery. The greys of the rocks, the larger patches of red and the purple are all cordura. All the green is embroidered.
Really awesome bag, I am totally impressed by the artwork, and how nice it came out in application. Truly an awesome and one-of-a-kind thing to carry around with you everywhere. Is this something that would cost a significant amount, because most custom places I have checked out charge a fortune for something that is a single production. By the way, you dropped your rye.
HOLY FONG! That is KILLER, D! Shit, can't wait 'til Rich comes in and sees this! (Though, actually, you've probably already shown him...)
Thanks everyone for the kind words about the art. Dustin came to me with this project and I couldn't wait to jump on board. I'm glad both him and Rich liked the work I put in for this. Here's some progress shots of the photoshop drawing and the illustrator line work: If you haven't guessed it by now, I had a little inspiration for the drawing.
Wow, this is really sharp. Is the design durable? My various shoulder bags suffer quite a bit of abuse, and do not look new for very long. Regardless, I am jealous of your sack.
Yes, I think it will hold up well. The applique pieces are all 1000 cordura and the embroidery stitching is robust. The bottom of my bags usually gets the most abuse so the flap should stay out of harms way mostly.
Ok, now I need a messenger bag again. Im thinking Garamon custom graphics, or maybe my cat with Garamon.
If someone else does want to do a commissioned piece of artwork for Gary or an Ultraman themed bag, count me in too.
