    From San Francisco Chronicle:

"Paul Newman, the Oscar-winning superstar who personified cool as the anti-hero of such films as "Hud,""Cool Hand Luke" and "The Color of Money" — followed by a second act as an activist, race car driver and popcorn impresario — has died. He was 83."

So sad......probably one of the most "un-hollywood" actors ever. Going to watch some of his older flicks today.

Amazing actor & person. Married for 50 years, all of the profit from his Newman's Dressing went to charities.

Newman's Own says it turned a profit in its first year. All of the privately held company's profits and royalties went directly to Paul, who has from the start distributed the money he takes in from the company to charities. In 1988, Newman launched his flagship charity, Hole in the Wall Camps, which brings together children with serious and terminal illnesses for a free summer-camp experience. (Paul's daughter Clea sits on the Newman's Own Foundation board, which oversees the charitable grants.).Today, Newman's Own is close to hitting the $250 million mark in charitable giving, according to company spokeswoman Susan LaMontagne.

    You will be missed.........

That makes me sad - he was one of my favorite actors and reputed to be an extremely down to earth, non-Hollywood type person.

My sister, who works in theater in NYC, did an interview with him at his home in Connecticut and said he couldn't have been a nicer guy - that his home is "normal" size and very unpretentious. The only concession to stardom was that he didn't use "Newman" on the mailbox to protect his privacy.

    RIP.
