This is probably a dumb question, and maybe it's answered somewhere else already, but I can't seem to find the option to upload & attach a photo to a post any longer. I see all the options to insert a photo via a URL & Instagram, just not the upload option that i've used before. Maybe I just need to drink some more coffee...
There was never an option for hosting pictures directly on skullbrain. It’s always been a situation where you need to have the image hosted elsewhere and just link it to skullbrain. Believe me, I wish files could be hosted on a skullbrain server; over the years so many images have been lost to people clearing Flickr, or personal websites going down, etc...
@hellopike That's weird! Because for the most part, the last 4 or 5 posts i've done I uploaded & attached the images directly to the post. Now I feel crazy, haha Here is a link to a post I did that way: http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/no-reason-whatsoever.33297/page-190#post-990579 If you right click the image and then view image address you can see it's hosted on SkullBrain.
Will do! It was nice to post images that way, because you get a nice light-box effect to expand the photo (plus, the image stays local, so it doesn't break the link when flickr/instagram disappears someday) Anyone else have any idea what happened to this option?
Yeah, unfortunately the board is just not set up to do this (i.e. re-host all the images). I mean, in theory it sounds really convenient and a super great way to archive all the images which have been shared over the years on the board, but when you stop and think about it, especially in so many of the random threads (looking at you PA thread!), going back 15 years now, there is no way we could support the storage necessary to have all these photos kept on the server. The board is already run entirely voluntarily and for free to all members. That means it is costing folks somewhere, so let's keep that in mind. So the short of it is, yes, there is a means to do this via the XenForo coding, but at the moment it isn't really a feature for the board.
@ultrakaiju Thanks for the info and clarification on all that. I can imagine with all the images posted, hosting them on the website would get out of hand real quick, so i'll open an extra photo hosting account somewhere to share photos from.
Flickr used to be great, and I would still recommend it (I think) for hosting your own photos (e.g. stuff you care about, toys, etc.). For just quick image grabs and dumps, e.g. to post here, what I would say is Imgur. It is free, doesn't require an account (yet) and I don't think has broken any links thus far.
