One of my favorite RxH figs that I've grabbed so far is the orange with grey Armored Chaos. He's totally badass in his armor, and looks like a form Chaos would take when shit is getting heavy and the Mutants need some support. As such, I really wanted to give him a weapon, so I decided for a retro-style Ray-Gun. As I was sketching out an idea, I thought it might be more interesting to sculpt it sort of 'half-shifted' between a ray gun and Chaos's probe (which I like to think doubles as a ray weapon anyway), figuring that as the battle got bad, Chaos might begin to lose focus on his form, and the extremities like the probe gun would be the first things to waver. The current piece is sculpted out of Aves Apoxie-Sculpt over a plastic tubing armature, with some styrene-strip details and some miscellaneous tank bits. The details still are not a hundred percent, as I want to refine the tendril-like texture of the gun, as well as add maybe a trigger or a bit more detail to the rear ray-gun bit. I’m thinking that if there’s interest, I could recast these to sell, with or without painting depending on what people want. It would be an easy two-piece casting I think, and is a fairly simple piece to cut my teeth on casting. It will fit in either hand of a Mutant body, but it is a bit floppier in the right hand, and it will also fit nicely in the open Chaos hand. If I do cast and paint them, I will make sure they don't end up too tight, as noone wants to accidentally damage the paint on their figures. Here's the pics, let me know what you guys think!
Dude forget the gun, You killed that chaos! So gnarly, its almost a different toy to me now. GRUESOME!!
Haha, don't worry, I just finished that guy today, and will photograph him tomorrow. You don't like the gun tho?
while i appreciate your enthusiasm and concept, i think casting and selling anything that is considered an "rxh accessory" is crossing the boundaries of rxh as a company and mori as a creator. now if you were just making/casting a few for your own collection, that would be different and fine ... at least imho
Thanks... Like I said, good pics of the Chaos are forthcoming. I'm really pleased with how it turned out today. Wing Clipper unfortunately does bring up a reasonable point... am I stepping on the wrong toes with this idea?
i think for one off's it would be cool, but not sold separately. i think thats when shit will become kinda iffy.
Hmm.... alright. I was thinking people might be interested in it for their Armored Chaoses or whatnot, but it sounds like that might not be such a good idea.
don't get me wrong, i'm pretty liberal in my views on intellectual property and whatnot... i love a homage, bootleg, sample, collage, etc. when in the right context. the main issue here is that this scene is such a small niche, where companies are literally run by one, two, or just a few people. i'm not knocking your ray gun at all... just the selling part. i think weapons for toys are cool!
the way i look at it is, The Chaos is AWESOME. And so's the gun, but i wouldn't sell them separately. You clearly have the skills to paint up some insane customs. And the gun or whatever other accessory could be the extra stamp of awesome.
The custom paint job is indeed dope. Very gruesome splatter effects. I'm not so happy with the design gun so far. Especially the handle looks out of place compared to the rest. Maybe you can add some details and reshape it a bit more making it more a part of the RxH world. Now, I do not have any connections in the toy world but in your case and if possible I'd check with RxH and Mori first before producing these. At least asking doesn't cost anything. Maybe someone here can forward your idea to him?
the gun needs to be more like a cronenberg style gun from existenz or videodrome ? more organic. On a side note that custom is off the hookage. amy interest in doing a blob vs chaoes combo in the style for me ? shoot me a pm spen
