I only saw the 1st episode. Mulder seems like a pants-shitting conspiracy nut now

It looks like his years of seclusion have been taking a toll for sure.

Pretty underwhelmed by the new episodes so far - the dialog has been hard to take - but I'm very much looking forward to tonight's installment --- Darin Morgan of Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space' and Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose fame was behind the script. Kumail Nanjiani is in it, too, so that should be fun.

I like the plot but with you 100% on the dialogue...some of the back-and-forth between Mulder and Scully is downright painful to watch and even left me wondering if there was some inside joke. I would have thought the chemistry between the two would be reignited more easily, perhaps not. I am just going to chalk it up to writing in need of a helping hand.

I'll keep watching and enjoy the hell out of it though, because X-Files.

I keep waiting for Scully to clear her throat. I haven't seen the X Files in a long time so I cant remember... was she always so horse? She needs to hydrate that throat! Unless there is a water conspiracy a foot!

I think it's just an affectation. Makes her appear serious.

I've been catching up on some of my favorite old episodes. Watched Blood and Humbug today, among a few others. The Darin Morgan episodes are my all-time favorites.

After tonight's episode I have to say I am really disappointed with how they brought the show back. Is the show trying to mock itself purposely? The writing, the acting and the god awful stories... This is really what we all wanted to see when they decided to bring the show back?

When scully called mulder's phone and his ringtone was the theme to the x files I about lost it. Now that is jumping the shark!

I'll watch the last three episodes but this is pretty upsetting to see such a great show come back as trashy television.

Maybe it's just me but with so much amazing programming, maybe the x-files should stay closed and locked behind closed doors.

In a word: Yes. At least tonight's episode was.
It was written by Darin Morgan, whose previous episodes were always tongue in cheek, self-referential pokes at the show, thus the ringtone, and overall jokey feel. His main target is usually Mulder, who he tries to make look as goofy as possible in these episodes, and I'd say this one was no exception.

Great to see the return of the Stoners, and the not-so-subtle nod to Kolchak.

There were a lot of jokes in this episode, and quite a few missed the mark, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Last night's episode was one of the best things I've ever seen on broadcast television. It was near perfect X-Files camp with Easter eggs to keep even the most die hard fans losing their minds! Did you catch them all!? I saw a lot of grumbling on twitter about how the episode was dumb.

If you didn't get the self-referential camp factor, you clearly haven't watched enough episodes of the X Files! haha. So many of the old ones have this same weird kitchy vibe (and those are actually my favorite ones!)

I honestly cried, and laughed so hard my sides were splitting. I don't ever want this to end!

I've always looked forward to the monsters of the week episodes X-Files graced us with in the past. Especially those which featured campy creatures coping in absurd situations. There aren't too many of these kooky monster episodes made so they're always appreciated when they air. While Episode Three wasn't written by Darin Morgan, it did remind me of Season Four's "Small Potatoes" episode written by Breaking Bad's Vince Gilligan which featured our favorite lovable lug Eddie Van Blundht... remember the h is silent, who literally wanted a better life in someone else's skin. Eddie strived to help Mulder by telling him how great a life he actually had with his FBI job, ladykiller looks, and that he should really enjoy his time on this mortal coil instead of sleeping on the couch. There was a special kind of bonding that happened in "Small Potatoes" between Eddie and Mulder and it was nice to see it again in this third episode, where Rhys Darby (from Flight Of The Conchords) was also trying to impart some wisdom to Mulder. And maybe just maybe it might have struck an introspective chord inside ol' Spooky to provide a moment of self-reflection about the things he's seen, what he thinks he's seen, and how the universe always has secrets to reveal.... even if it's every 10,000 years.

Are you referring to this season's episode three? Cuz not only was it written by Morgan, he directed the episode as well.

    Maybe I misread this though?

^ I noticed that same thing, but from the context of his post I assumed that the n't on wasn't wasn't supposed to be there.

Fun episode! Darby was a nice surprise, as were the twists involving his character. LOVED that he was dressed as the night stalker, too!

A perfect double-pun for the series.

Yes, super fast typing created a typo. I meant that episode three of this year was in fact penned and directed by Darin Morgan while "Small Potatoes" from 1997 was penned by Vince Gilligan. I too loved that Rhys was dressed like Carl K.

Aaaaand for those hip to "Small Potatoes" they'll recognize that Darin Morgan actually played Eddie.

Definitely loved the return of the stoners from "Quagmire" and "War of the Coprophages", the return of the red speedo, all the inside jokes, and the Hardy and Manners tombstones, respectively.

Now we wait with anticipation for next week's episode.

Whelp, I got a bit bored last night so I stopped watching the episode maybe 20 minutes in. I just now remembered, some 25 hours later, that I never finished having a look. Not a good sign.

I've enjoyed them OK so far . . . they have been entertaining enough. I loved Rhys Darby in the monster episode,
its always good to see him and it was a real surprise to see him in the X Files.

I do feel they are trying to cram too much into each episode, though. Its like they're rushing it because they only have
    6 episodes.

Episode Three was a bit lackluster. I too feel that they're trying to cram a lot of content into each episode. It's kind of like they're quickly racing to the finish line which is downplaying some of that suspense we've all come to love and look forward to over the years. I thought it was interesting that they cast Tim "Lint" Armstrong as the artist. Maybe someone on the X-Files team is a big Rancid or Op Ivy fan.

I didn't care for last night's episode. The terrorism angle didn't seem very "X-files" to me, and it didn't seem the proper vehicle for another sort of goofy episode. Strange.
