Mayor said it would never happen, because he cannot appreciate the awesome that is Robocop. I mean, the dude shoots a guy in the junk shooting between a skirt! Robocop is awesome and "I'd buy that for a dollar!"
Like Detroit can afford to NOT put up something, ANYTHING, to sway tourism. Here's the deal Detroit: MAKE YOUR ENTIRE CITY AND GOVERNMENT CENTERED AROUND THE ROBOCOP MOVIES! Seriously! Put "OCP" on everything, all sorts of themed crap. You NEED money dudes! Nerds HAVE money! DO IT!
I went to see Robocop in the theater with Wattie from the Exploited, he was "dating" my room mate. For a week he walked around quoting the movie in that thick Scottish accent...
It was fully funded by OPC. Makers of licensed sugar water, and caffinated marshmallows. OH and ED-209
Aside from not visiting the statue, any other recommendations while I am stuck in Detroit for a couple of days?
Some restaurant recs: Seldon Standard The Apparatus Room (in the Foundation Hotel) Dime Store (for breakfast) Check out the interior of the Guardian Building (across-ish from Dime Store). And many other buildings...we didn't hit as many as we had planned, but I remember the Guardian. There's a street full of amazing houses right by Third Man Records (?), or whatever Jack White's label is called. There's a small gallery/restaurant/bar alley area - don't remember what it's called, but close to Shinola Hotel. Louis Buhl is one of the galleries in the area...googlemap them and you'll find it. Which reminds me that Library Street Collective recently opened up a new art space in an old church...it wasn't open yet when we were there so I don't know where it is. We didn't make it to Belle Island, but it was on our list.
I was only there overnight so I just got to see the hotel and a convenience store. In case it happens again, I will keep these recommendations in mind. Thank you!
