That's awesome. Lots of beautiful vintage.

I almost got my hands on Garuban, but the seller pulled out on the last min.

    Thanks Souki,
Garuban is one of my all time faves, being made from stuff found in a junk yard. I am still looking for the red vari.

I like all the bright colors Bob!

see you have couple of the older missile firing vinyls.

How would you compare these old vinyls to the new vinyl Kaiju coming out.

I am still somewhat new to vinyl.

The vintage vinyl has less detail, but does have a certain charm about it. A somewhat primitive quality, as found in early garage kits. Plus it's the historic begining with pieces as old as 35+ years. They feel and smell different.
The newer vinyl is very fresh and inventive. Exciting in terms of the variety of designs coming from more and more new sources every day it seems.
Almost all of the vintage vinyl designs were interpretations of characters originally created for Japanese TV and film. Also, all the vinyls were made by only a handfull of companies.
The designs of todays vinyls are coming more from the cerative vision of each designer with only vague influnces from the past.
In short, if its made from vinyl I love it!!!!!!

I bought the WCC 21 Kaws / Pushead Companion on Yahoo Japan for 58000 yen. With shipping and fees it came in around $500.
I dont think you will ever see one sell for much less than $500. and could easily go for $800. to $1000. withen the next 3 to 5 years. Nothing even comes close to this figure, both in terms of design collaboration and mystique! IT IS SIMPLY ALL BY ITSELF in the world of vinyl. Being a small run and signed on the figure and box also helps. $500. will look like a steal soon enough.

I have to admit I am not up to speed on the names of all the figures in my collection, as when I started to collect in the 80's I went by what I liked ( still do) and could not find much info in English till much later. Thank god for Hyper Hobby photos and Super7 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, which one is Norakuro? If the Yoshiharu Tsuge's "screw" character is who I think it is ,it's a GID vinyl wind up.

well, i don't know the names of all of the toys too... but i can recognize some!!
Norakuro, or “Norakuro-kun” is a character created by Suihô Tagawa. Was pretty popular manga on the 30s… Actually I think Shigeru Sugiura was Tagawa’s assistant… here are some pics of Norakuro-kun

looks like a cat right? well, norakuro is actually a dog... the manga series generated tons of merchandise... here is the creator with some of them

I've seen some Norakuros in diecast... also in vinyl - or celuloid... maybe? (coz i think the japanese started using vinyl later on...

i called him " the screw" character.. this guy is actually is from a surrealistic story Tsuge published in 1968: "Nejishi" or "Screw-Style".. this particular story was published in the Comics Journal # 250...

the wind-up is from medicom... as i said, never saw the version you have!

Bob, real nice collection. I love a packed cabinet full of crazy gear. A kid could stand and stare for hours. Am jealous of the Albino Ken!! Not to mention the Japanese crazyness amongst it all.
It the first pic on the bottom shelf there is a space man in green with a pink helmet on. Who is he and where from?

Sub-T, your knowledge always makes my head spin. That's what makes this board pretty special to read.

    Yo SubT,
OK, got it. Thanks for all the super info!! I do recall his name now that you reminded me. I have the packaging for my Norakuro-kun figure also. My vinyl is a bit different from the one in your photo, so here is a better photo of mine.

    Yo Mori,
I lucked out on the White KEN, bought it blind for the reg. color price. Blew me away when I cracked that puppy open.
The Green astronaut with the pink helmet is one of the rubber bendy type figures from the COLORFORM ALIEN series. The series of 6 or so figures was short lived and very limited. Great design and WAY ahead of its time. I have seen a full set of the figures Mint on cards sell for $5,000.00 ( only 4 or 5 sets MOC are known to exhist ) Loose figures in good to excellent condition are hard to find as well, not only because of the low numbers made but also because of the nature of rubber bendy figures being rather fragile, the wires inside break and then the rubber cracks, etc.

    Bob,
Thanks for the info. The Astronaut must be a bit of a prize in your collection then. It looks a real nice figure...and so rare.

Also SubT, I meant to ask about the celluloid refference you made. Was this an early toy material? What did it look like compared to vinyl? Didn't realise celluloid was anything other than a film carrier.

yeah.... celluloid is an early material. the substance is highly flammable and prone to denting and cracking, that's why is obsolete nowadays.
i read and article on the book "little boy" about vintage vinyl toys. i can't recall the whole thing, but jackie can back me up on this since she owns the book, i just checked the article at the bookstore...

oh, and you still can find some old celluoid toys on ebay.

bob, your collection is killing me!!!!!!!!!

More Picts: These are some built kits krom the S.F.3.D
series originally released in the early 1990's in Japan by NUITTO. They are space suits and vehicles of the future but inspired by WWII German tanks, etc.
While the first issues can be pricey, kits cast from the original molds were re-released a few years ago and can still be found on Ebay.
