Did anyone encounterd some kind of problem with vintage toys with doll hair ? I noticed that brown spots were appearing on the hair of my Gori. It had already some when I got him some years ago, I am not so sure but it seems that there is more of them now. Is there some remedy to it ? I have not tried any chemicals on it for now. Any shared experience on this would be nice. Here's a pic of the pb :
I have not tried this on hair, but have tried on plenty of doll bodies & its worked. as always--DISCLAIMER--test it on a small section first! Put a dab of clearasil (NON TINTED!!!) on the spot, put it in the sun. wash off, see if its lightened. Try it for several days until it matches the shade of the rest. You could also just try washing it with a gentle soap. it may be stained, but i've gotten some stuff out that i thought were stains in hair. I'll check the doll forums for you & see if anyone has other tips, but I would try the clearasil. its got a light bleaching agent, but its not harsh since its meant for your skin. works great on stained doll skin, but never tried hair. ps: NICE GORI!
I am a bit anxious about trying anything as the hair, apart from being stained, is in excellent condition. I guess trying the water & soap or the clearasil could not hurt. You could also try this, which is made specifically for this purpose: http://adollysworld.com/doll_cleaner.html kind of expensive, so here are some other options: I've used gentle shampoos and had success getting out old grime (but have not had to deal with stains) Maybe I will stain a barbie or something to test cleaners! I use Aveda Shampoo or something natural in case there are chemicals. Don't forget doll hair isn't like people hair-its usually thin strands of plastic. This means chemicals and heat can melt it, as can some other plastics. The key is gentle! I think we might have this same Gori at home, so I'll feel his hair tonight & see if I can identify it. Its probably just Saran. I know it might seem silly, but there are places (at least in the US) known as Doll Hospitals. They might laugh at your gorilla doll, but they would be qualified and have the tools & products needed to repair most basic damages. Worth a shot. I know a lot of people also use Dish soaps and warm water, or Window Cleaner (believe it or not!) The hair is just plastic strands, so often Windex (again a US brand) do wonders. PS: I think in France Clearasil is called Biactol. Basically you want a simple acne remover. most have bleach in them. again. be cautious. there is more chemical in here than you'd think! check it frequently for changes.

Thanks kurumonz, I try to update my site quite frequently. I lost the pace in 2008, but made several updates since the beginning of the year. Making those little animation take quite some time... I was considering posting some pics in the "Show your collection" section. In the meantime I created a Flickr account, which is a simpler solution for showing pics on the net.
