To start, I love PK and MVH...and I too am a raging fanboy. That said, I think this is a big part of the problem with a lot of new artists. Their inspiration is so narrowly focused. They don't pull from aspects of life, other influences, and art in general. Everything is directly taking influence from other toys, and more specifically, this tiny less than 1% cross section of the toy industry we call "sofubi".
With such a narrow focus, how can we not get a bunch of toys that look similarly. It also means they are more likely to get an immediate fanbase because of the aesthetic of the toy, rather than the story behind the toy. Less and less of these toys come from a place of true creativity and creation. Very few are risk takers, showing us their own ideas in a creation. I'd much rather collect unique interesting toys with more than just an aesthetic they are mimicing. (sorry for the art nerd/hippy rant)

It's all so insanely subjective, though. What constitutes jocking someone's style vs. influence vs. falling in the same ballpark category? My Skinner Sextopigon, Lolgolth and Mimi Monster all have that melty skin texture, for example. I've seen people basically infer that any toy with a skull head is a rip-off of <name of 5.6 x 10 ^ 51 artists that use a lot of skulls in their designs>. I've also seen people defend Yabanjins which IMO are just low-rent Bemon knock-offs.

In general though, I'd like to see a lot more stuff like this:

    + Retroband's MEATS magnetic accessories
    + Retroband's MEATS clothing
+++ Papa Lemon's multiple heads with a single figure (scoring stuff is getting SO HARD in this hobby that at least this makes it feel like when you score you're getting 2 toys for the cost of 1)
    + Blobpus' and PK's mini-fig omake
+ MVH's Berserker severed head and living weapon axe
+ realhead's multiple faces on a single head

And a lot less of this:

    - Toy "artists" handing out "stock options" with their toy line business partners and other "dollar first, art second" mentalities
    - Chinese mass-produced factory "sofubi" priced the same as hand-made sofubi (I agree with @Rich that latitude and longitude aren't what define sofubi, high quality traditional techniques and attention to detail are way more important)
    - Multi-headed figures. I may be in the minority on this one but fuuuuuuuck are there too many of these lately

I'm cool with some of the new stuff I just don't think every artist that comes out the gate gets to charge $300-500. Paul/Rich earned their spot as a legend. Then you hear shit like this and I just really wonder where the hype comes from. I dunno, I'd rather track down a Boss Carrion or a Mockbat any day over a mimi monster it they cost that much. I'm just saying, brand new artist, 5 inch figure. Kinda cool. What is so cool about this guy? What has he done to deserve the credit? Apparently not much.

Made this in response to the blank vinyl thread but had to post it here as well... btw looks like Tan is back to taking credit for everything on instagram, people are praising his work.. who knows the whole fiasco could have been a scam to get more hype around the toy. If it was I certainly fell for it.. bad news is I personally would never buy any of his toys from this point on and he will not be invited to participate in any future Soft Vinyl Mayhem shows.

I love how the Telebobo in his "proof" photo is already done being sculpted.

Im legitimately 100% confused. I opened up my package and got my PigPig Man great colors and sculpt but than this came with it to....

Now ether this is one hell of an extravagant "Sorry it took so long for the lottery toy to be sent out so here is an extra toy for the wait" gift or some one is missing a lottery piece they won from this Unchiman collaboration. Did anyone else get this in there Halloween Pigpigman lottery pieces? Im only asking because i remember i wanted to enter for the Unchiman lotto but other priorities took hold first so i passed it.

Paul's spun sugar bobos are truly epic IMO.

I still genuinely like the toys, not so much the newest Madmimi sculpt.

Do we know for sure that Paul is going to continue working with Tan or is he just wrapping up a commitment that he'd begun working on already, prior to this ballyhoo?

I love the toy as much as you but the price is keeping me away from even entering it. At $250 id be up for it but $400? No, id rather invest in one of his other pieces for that price like a Dual Bat, Gobo King or even that new 2 headed monster.

There's no denying it's a high price, collaborations are much like gallery show pieces in that multiple parties are splitting profits.

Whether or not they staged the whole incident was a huge turn off

I personally really like Mimi Monster, but at this point I'd rather not support the "company"

Trust me, I spoke to the real sculptor of the PigPigMan. Tan didn't sculpt it. End of story.
As long as he still claims that he sculpted all of these toys, he's being dishonest.

Really??? I love the new Mad Mimi sculpt! The original is fun, no doubt, some of my favorite, newer toys I've purchased. But the new Mimi from Violence Toy just screams John Carpenter and Clive Barker to me.

Granted Violence did them a great justice, I just think the face is ok, weird claw guy on the back is a bit wack and the cool spine/bones or whatever in the back of the Mimi monster is just gone and is now just a blob of nothing.
Other than It's dick being a bit more circumcised, the bottom is practically identical.
And I liked the brain hole in the OG.

Ah, I see. I think that's all areas I can agree with, especially those being the fun factors. I still gotta say, though, the Mad Mimi appeals to my preferred aesthetics, but I absolutely do see what you're sayin'. I think there's enough differentiation between the two that they feel unique and fresh in their own right(s).

Needs more rotting, cyborg giant penis!

Seeing all these "well-respected" artists collaborating with this chump on IG is really disheartening. Oh well, at least it saves me money... more toys that suddenly have become a lot less appealing to me.
