I'm several years late on this one, but I just picked up the green lucky bag version. Very nice figure, good sculpt, great colors, and super solid vinyl. How many versions of this were made? From what I can tell: Unpainted black lottery "Godzilla" dark blue Standard yellow Glow "Meltdown" red Lucky Bag green Did I miss any?
I saved the checklist from Super7's website before the link stopped working, and it looks like that is all of them (the checklist actually is missing the lottery prize). There may have been some test shots that were distributed via lucky bags over the years. Agree with your assessment of the green version and the toy generally. The color schemes for the various releases were all done well. I also forgot that this was a Cosmo Liquid sculpt.
Yeah, I didn't know that Cosmo Liquid sculpted this. First toy I've seen that has his name on the foot. View this post on Instagram
This sculpt has really grown on me over the years. I've yet to take a swing at one, but I'd probably consider it if that milky green LB popped up. Be cool to have a Darrow toy around that wasn't all extra articulated and shiz. Anyway, nice finds, fellas!
I loved the comic so much, when I found the standard yellow one a few years ago I fell in love with the cutesy version of the monster! This “classic” colorway is a great addition
I've observed that the lucky bag version seems to pop up frequently and is relatively cheap compared to the others. Maybe because it doesn't have any packaging. I believe this is the toy that kicked off the Destroy all Kaiju line, and for me it's the one that does the best job of portraying the classic MaruBuru style.
This is one I've wanted to see in hand, 'cause it looks bad ass, but have yet to. Roger, that photo next to the Gomora looks very awesome and fitting. There's a red version I'm pretty sure I've seen that I remember fancying a while back. It also surprised me that Cosmo Liquid sculpted this, though I'm not surprised by how meticulously executed it is.
This guy? Here are the other two variations that haven't been shared yet: All snaps seem to be from S7 inhouse promotions. EDIT: Oh, this is handy: From the S7 DB. Seems to just be ignoring the raffle blank.
I was looking for those photos when I posted the list of variations, thanks! One nice feature is that you can pose it with the tail on the ground, or leaning forward, as it appears in the comic. It's well-balanced.
The fam, in order of release: Someone other than me can feel free to Photoshop the image of the black fella!
@toothaction Yes!!! Thank you! Gah, that version is fantastic!!! Meltdown is a very aptly title! Edit: That blue Goji tribute is fantastic. @Roger I love having playability in poses. Adds so much more to handling and having fun. I'm particularly partial to toys that can sit down.
For those of you who are looking for them, keep an eye on Mandarake, too, they're relatively cheap there compared to eBay.
Seems at least one of the releases came boxed... Spied in this SDCC 2011 report, so was it the Marublue fellow?
