I think the episode was phenomenal. I regrettably don't have a TV to enjoy the full film quality, so I watched it elsewhere a little while ago, and wrote a substantial writeup here. Can't wait for next sunday, and though I've read some of them I'm preferring to avoid the graphic novels for now to keep expectations in check.
the first show was pretty good. I think the reveal on his wife and kid plus the love triangle action was a bit premature.
Good times! I agree about the love triangle being a little premature but that's a small complaint. Overall, one hell of a good time and I'm looking forward to next Sunday. Another small complaint was Ricks accent British/southern?
I think the love triangle element was thrown in early for all the non genre viewers IMO. It is shown kind of early in the original comic but not that early! Andrew Lincoln who plays Rick is British. I was looking for those slips too but I thought he pulled it off well. Fuck it I'm going watch it now. I'm on vacation (home) all week.
The changes they made to have it work for television were fine with me. I know they're gonna do more. SPOILER I wonder if Rick will even lose his hand, I can see them thinking a mainstream TV audience would be uncomfortable with the main male lead being 1 handed. I know that's a dumb thought but that's how TV works.
Really good first episode, AMC has another hit on thier hands and watching Fright Fest all weekend including catching the end of Evil Dead 2 at the bar helped. Best Scene for me was when he kills the zombie crawling on it's belly in the park. I have a feeling I'll be watching this every Sunday.
I dont think this is gonna happen on the show.I read an article where Kirkman said he regretted doing that in the book.Personally I always thought it fit in perfect with the story.
I haven't read the graphic novels at all, but the pilot episode definitely made me want to go and pick them up! That was pretty damn intense. I felt like they did a great job of putting you inside of Rick's head after waking up to all that havoc. I loved the scene where he is inside his house, debating if he was dreaming or not. I really don't follow any TV shows at all. Not a big TV guy. But I'm definitely going to keep up on this one.
LOVED IT. It was better than 95% of the horror films I've watched in the past 5 years. I want more NOW.
Really enjoyed this. The aforementioned scene where Rick tries to convince himself he's dreaming and the one where Morgan can't bring himself to shoot his wife were very well done. The zombies are relatively sharp in this one, too. Morgan's wife remembered where she was when she was alive, and even tried the door knob (don't think the comic zombies are smart enough to do that). The little girl zombie picked up the doll, too. As long as they don't go beyond that I think we're okay.
I liked the idea from Shaun of the Dead or the cartoon Ugly Americans where we live in harmony with our zombie friends and family. we just have to lock them up like dogs in a cage.
well, with 5.3 million views last night, it's a huge win for the network and one of the biggest cable hits ever. without a doubt it's here to stay.
Yeam I'm with you. I'm ok with "some remembered things" being a part of their actions but Bu-style? No thanks! Was that their house? I just thought she sensed something because they were whispering and stuff? I thought they said it wasn't their house and they just found it but I can't remember now.
I kept wondering if you awoke in the hospital as he did to what he saw how long would you keep thinking that you must be having a lucid nightmare and keep trying to wake yourself up.
it was not their house, they were squatting in it, but AFAIK she died there after being bitten. In the comic, the zombies detect prey mainly by sound and smell, and will stop attacking people who they're kept in close proximity to after a while.
SPOILER: Yeah I remember early on when they covered themselves in dead-smell to walk around with them.
uggh I need to watch this.I really wanted to but My girlfriend and I watch Bored To Death every week. Any fans? Now I will hunt for it online.
Watched It this afternoon.. Awesome. I don't ever have a "Show" that is a must watch.. That might change if they keep the season as strong as this 1st episode.
Agreed, plus you get "making of" features with each episode and the animated "web comic," which to my surprise is really good! It's also a little different from the episode. I haven't read the graphic novel but assume that the web comic is based more on that than the TV series. I loved the emotional tone and personal tragedies explored in the first episode. I can't remember ever seeing that in a zombie film before with the possible exception of 28 Days Later. Also, the zombie effects are amazing. Really graphic and disgusting as they should be.
