There are plenty of threads here with the information you asked for. I would especially recommend Andy's very comprehensive listing of toy shops all across Japan. He has done amazing work not only providing all the helpful information, but comprehensive coverage of most of them too. EDIT - spend some time doing some reading here and you will find most of what you need. You don't need to post in every thread that deals with Japan.
andy's list? is there a link in here for that if it's a thread? i'm searching as we speak. well. i'm just stoked on the trip that's why thanks man! mods can close this thread
Check out the KK blog, it has loads of info. Being the super guy that he is, he has even created a map with the locations marked out. As the kaiju scene is not so great in Japan right now, many shops are changing, so just keep that in mind (especially for the smaller stores). As for the shops you mentioned and other larger retailers like Mandarake, most of them have maps listed on their websites. This is preferable to Google maps, which is not so hot if you try to use it for Japanese addresses.
Thanks Steve, and ditto on the perils of inputing Japanese addresses into Google. I've positioned the pinpricks on my KK Tokyo Toy map (which is a Google Map I've created) so that the locations are precise. Also, the map is fluid, and I update it as stores open and close. But there's still work to do. I think I'm up to 25-30 shops. I have a few more to add. Takes all kinds of time to add new locations. I've been reorganizing the KK splash page, so I'm not sure how easy it is to locate the map. Here's a direct link: http://kaijukorner.blogspot.com/2010/11 ... stars.html
thanks guys i'm on the KK deal as we speak now i remember where i saw that Erostika/BxH/SB 'similar building' heads up!
Not in Tokyo exactly, but does anyone know if something is up with PopSoda? I tried to make a visit last week, but I am not sure if the store was just closed for some reason, or has moved altogether. It was noticeably never that easy to find, but signs for the store were especially absent it seemed to me. I am probably just reading in to it, but I hope he found a new location if he is shut temporarily. I know the sofubi scene is a bit weak these days, and some stores are making a hard go of it.
Shoot. I had a suspicion that was the case. I noticed they were still getting new items in, and sent an email, but did not get anything back. I was hoping for one more stop in this weekend.
I'm pretty sure Pop Soda is still open. About 3-4 years ago, they moved locations. On the website, they post the days of the month when they're not open: http://www.popsoda.jp/ In December, the rest days are: Dec 3, 7, 14, 28. And on Dec 31 they're open until 6:00 PM.
Any advice on ThrashOut visits? I know they're closing down and it's just proper to have it as a mandatory visit whilst in TYO. What I know is that they don't open like regular shops. Other than that, anyone knows is Usugrow/Shinganist has a store? There's an address but I choose to think that's an office. I mean, what's a TYO visit without TO, SB, BxH, Usugrow, Mandarake, PopSoda, Erostika and 1-Up right? Got Andy's 'Map to The Stars' and the TU2 guides ready and on locked Any guides to where I can score some Pusheads or Astro Zombs?
Re: Tokyo Toy (Kaiju) Stores Database/Thread (addresses + li Is there a list for online shops that sell Kaiju? USA, or other? Super 7 has really streamlined there selection so it seems there's just here and eBay. Are there any other places that sell the good stuff? Marmit, Bullmark, etc. Hope someone can help. This link came up on google when I was searching.
Re: Tokyo Toy (Kaiju) Stores Database/Thread (addresses + li thank god this has came up. I have been thinking the same thing. Jungle in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles has some kaiju. But mostly anime figures.
Re: Tokyo Toy (Kaiju) Stores Database/Thread (addresses + li I could post a few links if none of the old timers object? (Dunno if they want to keep their sources secret)
Re: Tokyo Toy (Kaiju) Stores Database/Thread (addresses + li If you want the flippers that read this board to know where you shop, go right ahead.
