Anyone else watching this show? I have to say the hype is well deserved! Matthew McConaughey's character Rust Cohle is probably my favorite, especially with dialogue like this:
I've been watching, and its good! I've picked up a few Lovecraft references so far which gets my hopes up for some weird ass cosmic god cult stuff!
Fantastic show. Episode 3 was some of the best dialogue I have seen in a show in ages. McConaughey deserves all the praise he's getting, but I think Woody is doing a killer job to. Highly recommend.
this show is like nothing else I've seen - as someone else mentioned there are obvious connotations about it getting occult as hell and possibly supernatural, but either way it doesn't really matter. I also love how basically naught happens for most of the show, until the last 5 to 10 minutes. love WH, his character is awful (but in a good way), and MM's is such an unknown quantity at this stage.
I'm saving it up for when I have some more time to give it my full attention: I'm told the entire arc will be told in eight episodes - next year will have a different cast and story - so it should be perfect for a binge in a month or so. See you then! Top of the Lake was excellent; I second the suggestion.
So damned good. "If the only thing keeping a person decent is the expectation of divine reward, then brother, that person is a piece of shit. "
I'm burned out on murder / investigation shows but if it does get real weird I'll have to check it out. Top of the Lake is good. Been watching X-Files from the top, which I don't think I'd seen much of since I was in high school and it was first airing. For some reason I like it a lot more now.
It must be a godsend for an actor to play characters that are so layered and complex. Both WH and MM performances are top notch. I would say that 90% of the story is about them which makes me more involved in wanting to see how this plays out for them and less about what the mystery is. I'm sure that percentage could change when more of the mystery is reveled though.
There's a podcast I dig that is doing a show on each of the True Detective episodes. http://fuzzytypewritershow.wordpress.com/ There's also some Justified there for good measure. : )
The show is awesome and so far the best thing I've seen dare I say since The Wire?! I love it. Thanks for starting off this thread Lixx
Really digging this show immensely. The characters are enthralling and man the Louisiana setting is just a perfect match. Also...Alexandra Daddario.
Wow talk about a two ends of the spectrum. Just watched True Detective and Walking Dead this morning. While WD barely retained my interest with it's numerous plot holes and annoying Carl, TD was outstanding! That last sequence with the raid in the projects, super tense. As attached as I am to Marty & Rust, I've grown to accept the idea that stand alone seasons will make better viewing in the long run. Nothing to drag out with only 8 episodes.
Wow! Thanks for the heads up! Gonna watch this tomorrow just checked out some clips on youtube and it looks fantastic
i know, right. They have covered an insane amount of ground in episodes 3 and 4. I'm guessing they are going to keep it cranked at full throttle until it's done. Best thing i'm watching right now.
Interesting literary significance surrounding the 'Yellow King': http://io9.com/the-one-literary-referen ... 1523076497
Wow, I didn't even think they could top last weeks episode with the tension in that 6 minute tracking shot, but this weeks episode had me on edge. Had to watch it twice to go over the dialogue in my head. So.... Spoiler I'm torn on thinking Cohle is the real killer. On the one hand I don't think he is because his obsessive personality makes him a great cop and I think losing his family has just made him very sullen. On the other the modern day detectives really make a good case to Hart at the end of the episode as to why they think he is. If the episodes stay as consistent as they have been I don't know how next season will even top this.
I love how they do the pacing of these episodes. There's so much happening the whole time, unraveling more and more, and just when you feel like you're getting a handle on it all... BAM! the last scene just blows you away. And this week again did not disappoint at all.
