I think you need to fix your warp drive (or get one?) to travel those distances in reasonable time. Were you using the R1+L1 thrust buttons?
I keep getting distracted by stuff on the planet I started on, and haven't really ventured out into space yet.
Naming stuff will get tedious, so I'm pretty much only naming animals and using the default name for places, plants, and rocks. I wish you could upload your discoveries and then come back and name them later.

Don't think I could get into that game, unless it has a grabbing main story plot to get through. With most open world games once I get through the main story I'm pretty much done. I don't care about the side quests or discovering everything in the game.

The goal is to make it to the center of the universe, but the game is pretty much about the journey rather than the destination. It's literally impossible to discover everything in No Man's Sky. Even if all of humanity played the game for multiple generations the entire game could not be explored.

Hmm, a few other questions. Do you ever encounter other players and can you attack or be attacked by others? And what happens if you die, Is the game over or do you restart at a save point?

From what I understand about the game, yes you can bump into other players...but don't expect it to happen all the time since you're exploring multiple galaxies. You can also join bands of space pirates if I recall which is what I would be focusing my time on for sure.

I'm not sure if you encounter other players during game-play, or just computer-generated players. It's not an MMO or whatever those are called. But from what I've read you can at least buy/sell/trade with other players, if not actually encounter them on the surface of a planet or flying through space. The universe is so vast it seems incredibly unlikely that you would encounter another player whilst exploring.

I've now met two aliens. Neither attacked me, but I know that at some point there will be both planet-side battles and space battles, and I can choose whether to participate or not. I have been attacked by a few animals and some drones. I've died, and regenerated at my last save spot. In one case I was guided to my grave where I was able to reclaim some of my belongings.

There's also an element of Choose Your Own Adventure. When I came upon an alien I was presented with a few options during my interaction, and based on what you decide you'll have different outcomes.

It's not a thrilling game (so far), but it's pretty engaging. Again, I don't play a lot of games, but if I had to compare it to others I've played it would be a mix of NES Dragon Quest/Warrior and Myst. It doesn't have the puzzles (yet?) that Myst was known for, but it has that same "feel it out and learn as you go" type of game-play.

Nat! Nice to see you posting, man! I hope you're doing well.

While I am not personally playing the game, I follow gaming news daily. The developer, Hello Games, stated that yes, players would be able to bump into others. However, when two live streamers realized they were on the same planet, in the same spot, they were unable to see each other. So, the developer is now getting flak for that. They haven't really addressed it with an answer, just a 'holy crap, I can't believe that happened on the first day' type response. Time will tell -- From my understanding, Hello Games plans on supporting it for quite a while with updates, fixes, and new content. They even plan on improving on its visuals when Playstation Neo comes out.

I have been anxiously awaiting NMS since the initial announcement / trailer. The aesthetic, environments, sound design, music (65daysofstatic make some exceptional post-rock, a genre I was super into for a while), scope, etc., is all very up my alley. I can't wait to get lost in it. I have to wait til this weekend to get it as my girl is buying it for me as my post-bday present. The less-than-a-week wait since release has been killing me! :)

Speaking of lost in it -- We were over at a friend's who got it on release day. Walking around his starter planet, we noticed a cave and obviously went into it. I mean, who wouldn't. Little did we know that we'd be quite literally lost in this crazy purple space cavern system for 45+ minutes before we found another cave opening.

Finally fixed my spaceship up last night and left the starter planet. Wow! The transition from surface to space is seamless, and you have the option to fly around in the atmosphere to explore.

On the down side, the game crashed a couple of times. Kind of irritating when you are far in from a save point.

I've been playing Town of Salem and Starbound recently. Haven't touched Starbound since December 2013, which was really-early access for the game. Pretty much Alpha. Lots of character clears, no plots or quests, etc.
It's my replacement for NMS since I'm broke and can't afford it.

I am like 2-3 star systems deep now. This game is beyond amazing! I have not been naming anything I have discovered, there is just WAY too much stuff for that. I am also not planning on staying in any one system for too long, gotta keep exploring!

I wonder how long it will take to reach the supposed center of the universe? I am curious if that is even possible.

I love this game, even though it lulled me to sleep the other night. It reminds me of the Elder Scrolls games
habit of setting you on path, but you find some random quest or cave and never return to the main quest.
I don't feel this game is for everyone, but I have been looking forward to this game since the trailer came out.
Pretty much made up my decision between the One and PS4, that and Street Fighter which I still havent bought.
@akum6n if you enter and exit your ship, it automatically saves.
@bansheebot I went into a cave my first hour with the game, spent 30 min trying to get out
but couldn't find an exit nor could remember the entrance. Had to reload my last save which
    was at the beginning.

I got NMS this morning and can't stop playing, and when I unfortunately have to, can't wait to get back to it. I love everything about it so far.

Haha, I've definitely had that happen! I was just walking obliviously, got damaged, and stopped in my tracks to look around. I didn't see any animals, then started scanning and discovered a new, thorned-tendril-whip bastard of a plant.

I'm normally not a fan of things being "remastered" and "repackaged" as it is almost always a money grab. With that being said, I'm ridiculously excited for this:

    https://blog.2k.com/news/bioshock-the-collection-announcement

This is one of the few series I was actually hooked on and couldn't stop playing. The story and game play were and still are, superb. Anyone else excited for the Bioshock collection?

For those playing No Man's Sky on PC...how is it? I've been hearing stories that you need a pretty beefy computer to run it.

Question for those that have played Street Fighter V, how difficult has it been to unlock DLC characters
using the monetary system? Finally going to buy it but would like to know if I should buy the season pass
or try to unlock them in game. Im a pretty decent SF player, but since I havent seen the monetary system
in game I have no idea how hard it will be to gain all the points to unlock.

Im not sure on any of this but as a fan of Street Fighter in general i wish Capcom would go back to making 2D versions of the game. As nice as the 3D cellshaded version of the characters go i still just don't care for it as much. The amount of love and care they put into SF3: Third Strikes animation was amazing and you can really see it when you play the game. Im just getting super tired of every fucking company under the sun trying to jump on the 3D bandwagon with fighting games. lol

Thanks to the story content now and the increased offline stuff you can probably earn a decent amount of fight money that would get you most of the DLC characters. How many are you actually going to play as anyway? Odds are you'll only have one or two that you'd focus on which you should easily afford.

As for No Man's Sky: I sold my copy today. I completely fell for all the marketing. All the positive stuff I saw in trailers and see you guys saying: that window dressing quickly falls away and reveals a hugely, and deceptively, shallow game. Hello Games know what they're doing, too: Joe Danger was amazing.

@Headhunter totally agree, sf4 was ok but I still have to play this one. Sucks they wont go back to 2d, but I wouldn't mind as much if they re-released 3rd strike and Alpha 3 on the new consoles with online play. Both of those are perfect Street Fighters.

@thefauxbot I will want them all eventually since I play couch multiplayer and enjoy using everyone. Most of the people I play locally arent decent so I enjoy giving them a handicap by using someone I never use.

I have got pretty far in NMS now.

    20+ hyper jumps
    Learned over 100 words
Discovered more things than anyone could possibly ever count.
    25mil units
    25 slot ship
    20 slot backpack
    16 slot multi-tool

Still a long ways off from the center but I am making my way. Having fun for sure!
