Hiroko Yoda and Matt Alt's new book, Yokai Attack: The Japanese Monster Survival Guide, is now available at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/4770030703/ It's an English language field guide to the millions of unusual small creatures lurking everywhere in the wilds of Japan. Strongly recommended for yokai, kaiju, kaijin, and kaibutsu fans everywhere!
I think that website was the Obakemono project, but it looks like its down now. As far as I know it wasn't related to the book, though. The Yokai Attack book RULES, I picked one up a couple of weeks back and totally loved it. Definitely worth $10!
no, its up http://www.obakemono.com/ This book looks ok, but There are way nice *(and way more expensive) japanese guides that I'd rather have. Did I ever show you guys our Rokurokubi art? http://www.flickr.com/photos/missymazza ... 102890698/
Folks should keep in mind that it's also a bit "tongue-in-cheek" so it's not a straight up analysis of yokai.
The writing is solid and VERY informative. The art is just icing on the cake. Reminds me of Yoshihiro Togashi or even Shigero Mizuki himself! Love the format and the presentation too! It's right up there with the Mook as far as Skullbrain must have reference material!
