Amazing collection! Honestly tho'....I'm a little freaked out by the pic of them all together.....I'm afraid of these guys....like I'm afraid of clowns.
what's the story on the crystal dude?.....is that semi ningen? very nice collection btw....i've always loved that version with the balloon....
Like some secret society meeting. Are there any figures that have as much character as good old Garamon? Regardless of sculpt he always holds strong - sometimes ominous, sometimes grumpy, sometimes cute... Great pics!
Thanks, duuds! jojo- the translucent green Semi-Ningen came w/ one of the red event-exclusive Garamons by Tsubraya (now Yamanaya). Heh...Spence, I live in a cabin...sometimes, in the winter, all of Vermont feels like a cave, tho....dark and freezing! All but about ten or a dozen of the Gara-pieces I own are in these pictures, to one extent or another. Four of the absentees are off being customized, and one other (particularly exciting) piece is being built and painted right now and will arrive in February. I'll update this thread with some pics of the MIA Garys in mid-Feb or so.... Conditions were perfect to snap a couple pics of this guy outside today:
Brilliant Garamon collection! Sweet lighting on the Monstock piece. I like the last Garamon on your first set of pics...is that a M1 figure?
Amazing Garamon stuff as always! Love the smoky atmosphere too...perfect for these guys. Which piece is in the pic below the one with the translucent green semi-ningen? It's kind of blurry and Gary looks like he's snickering to himself?
love these garamon shots! i don't knowe why exactly, but i somehow get the feeling that i am seeing cindy sherman dressed as the garamon in each photo....they (yourr photos, not garamons in particular) seem to share certain qualities with her work, especially her sex pictures, fairy tales series, and the clowns, of course. Very nice photos all around! greatcollection!
these guys are just so cool. these photos look like theyw ere taken in the belly of the earth or something, in a colony where theyr all huddles together ready to come to the surface or something... where does my mind go sometimes?
tlk, if you mean this guy: ...that's the Kaiyodo vinyl model kit from the mid-90's. It was the second Garamon purchase I made; built up by me and my sister (her help was invaluable- each one of the spines had to be individually cut, trimmed and placed....maaaaaaddening...) and painted by me. Terrific kit...still pops up on YJA frequently at very decent prices. pdp- what an interesting comparison to make! I've loved Cindy Sherman for years (first discovered her thru People magazine, of all places, when I was a kid)- her work is completely awesome. And yeah, tho it seems odd, I really can see what you're sayin' in regard to these pics! z- that's the "Big Garamon" statue by X-Plus. Huge, fantastic piece that I chased for 4 years, before scoring in October of '04! Again, thanks all! Glad you guys are enjoying these snaps; I really had fun taking them. As for the atmosphere, it was pretty easy to achieve- all of these shots, save for the Yamanaya Gara's, were taken right thru the glass of my Detolf, using an LED button light.
Well said, Tim...that's one of my favorite things about collecting Garamon- no matter what aspect of the character the sculptor/company chooses to focus on, he always has so much damn solid presence....
A closer look at the Kaiyodo kit...I touched up the eyes and mouth about a year ago, and still haven't re-glossed them...
That's amazing.... really amazing but beware not expose them in such freezing enviornment for too long coz the vinyl may be hardened
Oh, no worries, g- they're right back inside after the pics are snapped! I gotta say, tho, I would love a big wood, stone, or fiberglass Garamon that I could leave out in my yard!
Yeah.... That's the piece. Wonderful kit, I don't have any Kaiyodo's but if I was to get into putting them together this would be the figure. Outstanding, Thanks for the pics and info
Update! Received a very exciting email today regarding one of the aforementioned "away for customizing" pieces... A bit earlier in the year, Eye Scream released what were basically smaller (12") versions of their 22" Garamons. Again, Ken Yokota handled sculpting and did a fantastic job...but the factory paint ops left a bit (okay, quite a bit) to be desired (IMHO, anyway). I contacted the great John Allred (http://www.herebemonsters.org) about doing a repaint on the head and plugging in a pair of Glastic eyes; he was down for it, so in late September I mailed the figure off to him. John schedules his work far in advance, and very exactly- he told me two months ago that he would begin work on 12/11 and probably finish on 12/12. Sure enough, the guy's like clockwork- he started yesterday...and I received the pics below today... Before... ...and AFTER! Yeah...it's safe to say I'm pretty psyched with how this turned out!!! A bit down the road, I will definitely be sending John the green version to do the same enhancements; maybe even the Noda-Ya GiD, too (Glastic makes some red-irised orbs that might look pretty kickass in that one)!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH H!
