Re: it's time for your close-up In order to get an all layers detailed pic, you need to close your lens to the max (the higher "f" possible). I don't remember the exact setting for those but a f16 is a good setting. At this aperture, you will need a long exposure time, so you definitively need a tripod (here approximately 3-5 seconds under direct spotlight).
I don't have a dedicated macro lens for my reflex camera yet. So I use a very regular lens (Pentax DAL 18-55 f/3,5-5,6), but I use a focal length setting close to the human vision (50mm). Unless you want some kind of effect on your photos, do not use a focal length lower than 35mm or the picture will be deformed.
The first pic was taken with my Powershot G5 (bridge) and the second one with my Pentax K-m (Reflex).
I'll try to put another pink close-up tonight !
