I picked this guy up...something about it, cute I guess, but I just had to have him! It's called Mamitolar, but I don't know this character and can't find anything more about him. Here's what I do know: it's a Marmit from the Vinyl Paradise line and about 9" tall. It appears to have the body/arms of a 1996 Marmit VP Baragon with a different head and tail. I'm really hoping someone here knows if it was on a tokusatsu program... and if I have the name right.
That side shot looks like its shitting out a larvae or should I say pupae.... Its whack, sell it to me.
Tanuki? The head and tail looks like it's just been swapped onto a Kaiju torso which is not very fitting.
did it come with a header and everything, NIP? Or is it possible that it WAS a Marmit Barugon that just got a custom job done? Just wondered
This is direct from the source. Akumatsu--san, president of Marmit, gave me two minis of this character last year. It is his original design. The kanji reads mami tora. Its a word play on Marmit which in Japan is pronounced mamito. The Figure is pronounced mamitora. Mami means raccoon in japanese and Tora is tiger. He said its the Marmit mascot. I don't know if he meant that officially or not.
I had considered it may be a Marmit mascot character from it's name, but I found nothing at all to confirm it. Thanks Iron King!!! btw... you hang with the prez of Marmit and he gives you stuff? That is awesome.
Holy shit. I just spit out my drink. This was hands down the funniest thing I read tonight...and it was so true.
I'm reviving this thread because I found this little fella at the bottom of the bargain bin at Super7 Saturday afternoon. Marmit Mamitora mini by ilmuffino, on Flickr Marmit Mamitora mini by ilmuffino, on Flickr It looked a little bit familiar, and once I got home and did some research I found that it is Mamitora, by Marmit and I remembered this thread. This is possibly the same mini that ironking mentioned in an earlier post above. Does anyone else have one of these? What other colors are out there? Are there any painted versions that were released? I think it's a pretty neat little toy and I'd love to have more of them.
I'm guessing that like other company's toys in that Gatchamon line, there is probably at least a full painted, a clear red and clear red with glitter. Possibly a clear with glitter and others as well, who knows. Other companies involved were Skull Toys (Baby Dokurocks), BLObPUS (Beripus), TTToy, RxH (mini Chaos log thing), Skull Head Butt (mini Monster Q thing). A little bit more info.: <a class=\"postlink\" href=\"http://toybotstudios.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html\" onclick=\"window.open(this.href);return false;\">http://toybotstudios.blogspot.com/2006_ ... chive.html</a> Here is an awful picture of the Baby Dokurocks I have. I'm pretty sure that Skull Toys released a few of these on his own (the painted ones), not in any sort of set from that series.
The first set of Gachamon had clear red (normal version); clear glitter red (uncommon version); and a fully-painted version (ltd. 10 of each sculpt). The second set of Gachamon had bright green (normal version); dark grey-blue and brown (uncommon versions); and a fully-painted version (ltd. 20 of each sculpt). The first set was actually sold blind in capsules from a giant vending machine at the toy show. Super7 was supposed to get a bunch in, but I remember receiving the sad message that everything sold out at the show. Here is a photo (not my own) that I saved of the first painted set: It's funny that the Marmitora was not in that photo. Maybe it was not produced in the first set... This post from Sofvi Kingdom has a photo of the second set: http://gold.ap.teacup.com/leo2006/41.html After that, they produced a run of clear glitter versions of each sculpt. From what I have seen, I think each company was allowed to paint and/or sell them as desired. Dream Rocket poured different colors of paint into his set. Blobpus included them as freebies with other toys. Etc. etc. I'm still looking for that first painted Dream Rocket nautilus (bottom left in photo)...
Many thanks, banshee and akum6n. That's a lot of very helpful info, for sure. I think I saw one of those RxH Chaos log things in that bin at Super7, as well.
Awesome. Daniel with the assist. It does look like the TTToy mini and Marmitora were both added for the second set. I'm not very big on minis (har har), but there are so many good sculpts in there. I don't really collect anymore, but if I were to ever see those painted Baby Dokurocks come up, I think I'd have to get them.
Hey just a little update, the original was made to commemorate a million visitors to the Marmit webpage...
Have to beg to differ there: The original (more brown & black, no yellow, & with silver claws) was made as a mascot for the now sadly defunct Marmit SHOP back around 1999 or 2000, when you either had to preorder Marmit goods thru their monthly ads in Hyper Hobby, or go to the shop to pick up the more limited items. I dunno if they even HAD a website back then. We've had this conversation before. If you search back, you'll find Kozik tells the same story. There's been ONE reissue to my knowledge (the more yellow one with black claws) and that may or may not have had smth to do with the website, I hav no idea.
