I'm sure some of you have seen this on some of the Japanese blogs. This looks like an interesting Kaiju Mook just released in Japan: I think the price is 1,500 yen.
It does look cool. Reminds me of this one Japanese graphic artist of the 60s and 70s, damn, can't squeeze the name out of the frontal lobes. Think the initials were T. Y. Anybody? Anyway, is there any price or availability info?
maybe its the long awaited book from Ichibanboshi of Modern 'Vintage' Kaiju from M1, Marmit, Bearmodel etc. heading to the bookstore on the way home tonight!!!!!!!!!!
The two figures in the purple starbursts by the banner up top are exclusives that you must order through a form you get with the book. Not sure what the one on the right is (Dodongo, maybe?), but on the left is Marusan’s new Pygmon colorway.
The exclusive on the right looks like the Marmit Brocken posted on Marmit Plus website yesterday. Awesome sculpt.
just spent the evening poring over this book with Hoshino from Ilanena. Its a compendium of all Standard sized Ultra Kaiju figures released from back in the day up-to the present. A treasure trove of fun. The pictures are kind of small and some are a bit to "moodily-lit" (dark) for my taste but the super hardcore data aspect of it is 100% Nerderific. Nicely organized and bonus checklist in the back. I would say its a must have...
Are the photos in color, or black & white? It is pretty inexpensive so I wouldn't expect the same quality as the recent book of monsters.
Great book. Good variety of original to new ultra kaiju. Nice color pictures. Too bad the marusan pigmon exclusive is so expensive.
I got a copy of this book about a week ago. It's sorted by character rather than company. So you will get to see a character made by a number of different companies (for example: Marmit, M1, Bandai reproduction, Yamanaya) and includes photos of the original Bullmark figure. Next to the each photo is the name of the character in both Japanese and English, the date of release and the original cost. Many of the photos are small, but they are high quality color photos... well worth the 1,500 yen price tag. Another cool thing for the obsessive collector is that there is a checklist in the back of the book for each company. The checklist includes all color variations of a figure along with date of release, original cost, notes, etc.
Sounds really good. Glad S7 has 'em. Can hopefully snag same after I get my wallet back from MOJ this week.
I just bought this book from S7. Can't wait to get it. I've been hoping an illustrated book of newer kaiju (m1go, marmit etc etc) would come out and this pretty much is exactly what I was looking for. Saw some inside pics of content from an auction on the bay. Looks great.
Really nice book for the price. The photos are almost large enough to be useful. Seems to focus only on standard size so you won't find many US Toys of Buta no Hana's here. More vintage pieces than I expected. Original issue price is nice but height would have helped. A giant Ultraman looks the same as a standard Ultraman when all the photos are scaled down to the same size.
Just got the book today. It's a great reference for Ultraman and Ultra Q creatures but that's about it. Has every character you can think of. Pictures, as previously discussed are way too dark though. They should have used a white background instead of black. Found out some interesting things on page 61 about the Woo's by Marmit. Apparently that white Woo with the red eyes is far rarer than either gid version of the same Marmit Woo. Only 50 of those White Woo's with Red Eyes. That would explain why you never see one on YJA. It doesn't explain why I can't find a blue painted gid or gid woo though They were made 100 each. Beige is 200, Green/White is 100. Painted Clears say 50 on the flesh colored, no number for the orange faced clear. Wish they gave numbers for the 2006 Red one and Black no eyes. Did you know there are two versions of the no eyes black woo? Never knew that. Apparently one has metallic blue paint in it and the other has brown metallic paint. Slight difference. Now all we need is a book on Modern Neo Kaiju. Mook covered most of the Godzilla world and companies like RxH, Secret Base. I want companies like Gargamel, Emupaiya, Shikaruna, Skull Toys, Kaiju Ken, etc etc covered in a book. Hell throw in the Toho movies too, we need to see all those Matnago's!
whoops! we got our second shipment in, but i forgot to put it back online. here it is for anyone interested - http://super7store.com/store/detail.php?item_id=13496
