 Cometdebris - Sametan
Hadn't seen any other posts on this guy here yet, but I'm excited to see how he's gonna come out. Sculpted by Kiyoka Ikeda, and proceeds go to Pangea Seed. More pics here: http://www.vinylpulse.com/2011/09/comet ... l+Pulse%29

 Re: Cometdebris - Sametan
Looks awesome. Pretty excited actually. I really like sharks, and always had a fascination with sea life in general. And after watching the Cove and a ton of Whale Wars, I've been very interested in the whole conservation/activist thing.... But I love sushi so much, I think I'll just be a hypocrite if I do anything lol
Anyway, the figure looks great so far, and it seems to be about pocket sized?

Well just in general, we are over fishing in our oceans. Fish populations are at a low. Blue fin tuna (those big fish that are prehistoric status, and are amazing creatures in their own right) are especially at a low. Also less fish, means less food for our sea buddies. Furthermore, and also a really big problem, is sharks and dolphins getting caught in those big fishing nets and trawls.... I didn't mean it literal eating dolphin or shark sashimi, rather the industry (fishing) that I 'support' is also indirectly hurting our sea friends. I'm torn

 Re: Cometdebris - Sametan
The thing that makes me think it might be bigger than a pocket is the fact that he fit "cometdebris Japan" on one foot, which seems a stretch on a pocket to me.

 Re: Cometdebris - Sametan
Yea the foot stamp makes it seem about Tokoji sized, but the one articulation at the waist makes it look pocket. Maybe it is a Tokoji sized figure with only one point of articulation?

Well, fins don't really need articulation. Do they?

 Re: Cometdebris - Sametan
angel birds are rather big and they have zero articulation, I'm anticipating artist size as pockets seem to all be existing characters and it just feels that way (use the force Fisk)

 Re: Cometdebris - Sametan
I have to admit I haven't been a fan of everything Gargamel has done since abandoning the fight figures but this thing is just so cool on so many levels. It's meaningful, an attractive sculpt (of course!) and I see sooooo much potential for color schemes. Much praise for Koji and Kiyoka.
FWIW shark fin soup has become very controversial here in California and San Francisco, as there is legislation to ban the soup on the table while some people including Senator Leland Yee and Mayor Ed Lee have criticized the bill as being anti-Asian (despite the fact that one of its sponsors was born in China.) I believe that the point is the preservation of ecosystems and species and support the ban in that spirit.

I'm sure the lack of articulation keeps mold costs down as well.

Spade pip belt buckle, tummy paunch, wrinkles and stitching on the shorts ... gotta love the eye for subtle details.

I am really liking this guy. Simple, but great. I like the way his fins look a lot like arms on his side. Excited to see what he looks like full-on, and I am hoping for a smaller size too.

 Re: Cometdebris - Sametan
So is this a homage to the vintage dolphin toy? the one with the boots, pants and cowboy hat?

I feel like there wasn't much love for Bwana's Dolly. But now that Sametan is coming, I think it would pair up very nicely with Dolly.
