This auction ended at ¥696,969 or about $8,915.02 + any associated fees and shipping.
Not ¥969969

Mostly because of the tiny car in his foot.

So... I'm kind of curious about something when it comes to vintage toys that command a price such as that Mach Baron, and I'm guessing some boardies may have some insight and even firsthand knowledge. When the bid is placed and the auction won, does the buyer generally pay in one lump sum or make payments over time? I'd be willing to bet it's outlined in the auction somewhere, or the buyer and seller negotiate that, but was wondering how it all goes down. I just see things like that and think 'god damn, that's xx% of my annual income,' or 'god damn, that's like xx pizzas,' or whatever.

Post Re: strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre o
Not that I have ever even considered making a purchase like that, given my lack-of-work status now (and seemingly forever.... ) but here are my two cents, for what that will buy you. Japanese are pretty stringent folks, and please, coming from someone who is half-German, I mean this as the utmost compliment. Sellers on YJA in particular are to the point about their sales, and usually would expect payment within a few days of an auction, else something is seen to be amiss. Add to this a tendency for Japanese to purchase everything (from cars to who knows what) in cold hard cash, they really don't seem to have any hesitancy about dropping a lot of money at one time - whereas we kind of make it seem easier to ourselves by using plastic or putting it on credit, etc. This is something that isn't really embraced in Japan, even cards are essentially instant payment/direct debit. Add to this that anyone involved in the hobby for a bit of time will come to realise how dedicated Japanese collectors are to their hobby, and consequently, how much they are willing to drop without hesitation for that one thing they want. For this case in particular, say 9k$ I would totally make the assumption it was a one-time payment by transfer, as all things seem to be done on YJA. For more expensive stuff, who knows, but I expect it is mostly the same.

Short answer, lump sum payments, done promptly, usually through bank transfer.

credit card !!!

I think most sellers just want to sell up and move ... on the auction sites they are kinda locked into the sites system of payment and delivery within a specific time

especially when you have made some good money on something !

My contribution for the day, this awesome, albeit pricey, Marusan Gyango with heavy metallic blue sprays. 100K 円 on the button. :)

OK I know everyone was watching (or participating in) these three on evilbay over the weekend:

Red Baron:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280927454338?ss ... 1423.l2649

Kikaider:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251114675027?ss ... 1423.l2649

Zaboga:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280927349142?ss ... 1423.l2649

I actually though that Red Baron would go higher. So is that Bandai 27cm Kikadier the most popular version? I know it's my favorite version of Kikaider.

I was too broke to participate, but still enjoyed those auctions. Truly some great examples of vintage figures right there. I kinda do hope they went to people on the board, so we will have a chance to check out some more pics.

What a beauty that guy is. I am actually amazed it was removed for the package for those shots, but I guess it could be that maybe the outside plastic might not be original (it is certainly very clear and in excellent shape).

Yeah the description says how the Last seller didn't mention that it was a repro, those were the photos for that.

It is a nice figure .

I just need to find a set of wings for mine or make my own and be content.

It's in great shape but $5,893 with repro header? For that much it better look like it just came of the factory line sealed.

This one was hard to miss, made it on YJA's front page. Amazing king size (20 inches tall) Marusan original from this morning sold for about $12k.

I thought the Red Baron went low as well, probably because no one from Japan was really in on it, as it was on ebay. Even with broken missile fires on the hands and chest, it is rare toy, and one of only a handful known to exist. (I think it even might have been the one from Yahoo a few months back...I need to check the photos.)

The Kikaider01 (second season) vinyl is difficult to find in Japan, but more common in Hawaii. They used to sell for $1,000+ regularly, but in the last few years they have come back down to earth a bit.

That Zaboga I completely missed. That is a nice figure. Congrats to who ever picked it up, it is still on my passive "to buy at some point" list.
