Recently got this guy from YJA. The company name marked on the foot is Miura. I'm not sure if he is a bootleg version of Aboras from Ultraman or a pachimon. Anybody have any other Miura vinyls or know who this kaiju is?
wow - i really love this sculpt. it's so primitive-looking. is it standard size? I don't know anything about this company or the figure but my guess would be it is a bootleg. Great pick up whatever it is!
It's 17 cm tall. I'm thinking bootleg also but pretty ballsy putting the company name on it and the symbol kind of looks like the Tsuburaya symbol.
Trippy! I think the company is legit though. (Yet another to catalog!). I poked around on Yahoo Japan and only found one other toy from them. I'll keep looking out for others...
Legit company, but I believe the character is "original" much the same way the Marusan "originals" were awfully similar to real chaacters, but just changed enough to stay out of hot water....
great pick up mark . glad to see some else likes these to . i think i have the entire line up . i will start with the gamora rip off .
Thanks for the pics and info, Jim. I've had my eye out for the 2-headed King Ghidorah and Gomora rip-offs for a while but did not know they were by Miura.
There are several kanji conjugations for "Miura" depending on the origins of the family name, the standard rendering is 三浦. On the bottom of the foot (in the initial photo), the name is rendered in katakana which are characters reserved for foreign words and names, ミウラ. The proper pronunciation of the name is Mee-Uh-Rah. Hope this helps!
I love how dopey the 2-headed King Ghidora looks, like a dog waiting for a treat. Thank you for sharing the photos.
Raw, vital and happy-looking monsters. Great kaiju. Need to get a job in Japan, live in a box and just spend all my money and mail stuff home.
I think I might have solved a long standing mystery. This guy (and several other pachi kaiju - I know Jim vintagevinyl has several others) is marked with an "M" within 3 circles. No one I ever talked to could tell me who the maker was. I recently found this scan from an old toy catalog on JYA. This close-up of it looks like an old mark for Miura. I think we have a match. The guy also had this scan showing a page marked TakaToku but with several kaiju that were made by Nitto. What is going on here. Did TT ever make Gyaos, Barugon, Jaiger, and Gappa? Can anyone translate this page? Gotta love this old detective work.
The page with the red print says "Miura no Masukomi Series." So looks like a match. Interesting- I didn't know that Pteranodon sofubi had that mark on its foot.
i have three of the dinos in the catalog pic and they are stamped tt on the foot . really dont know why they mixed the takatoku and nitto vinyls together.the cool thing about the miura " originals " is that the have glow paint . that catalog shot is awsome . thanks for posting that .
