Long story short, I'm an idiot, it was 5am, and I just spray painted my entire first run of Stolas resin figs without priming first. They're a horrible splotchy, disgusting mess.

How can I get the paint off? Tried nail polish remover and ran out. Didn't work too well either.
I'm so scared of melting the resin, this is hours of work I just ruined.

Have you tried soaking in simple green? I dont know if that melts resin but it is safe on metal on plastic.

Yikes! That really sucks bad, i know the feeling.

Monster Kolor? or what kind of paint, Clear coat also?

Probably your only hope is acetone or lacquer thinner and a tooth brush, but either may very well destroy the resin.

sanding and painting over it all may be an option but paint buildup will most likely look bad.

    good luck to you.

Hmm, never heard of Simple Green. The paint I used was some kind of weird brand I got from Michael's Craft Store. I only read after the fact that it doesn't work well on plastics... Go figure. :(

I'm stopping by Home Depot later today so I'll try to look for Simple Green and some laquer thinner, thankfully I have tons of miscasts I can test them on just in case. I have too many ridges to sand off the casts sadly... Think some paint-melting substance and a toothbrush is my only choice at this point.

Thanks guys, this has been an absolute mess.

Just wanted to post here for future reference, just in case anyone is as stupid as I was and painted without primer...

I ended up buying a big jug of Simple Green at HomeDepot (while picking up some two-in-one paint and primer, so it's dummy-proof) and soaked the casts in pure Simple Green.
About every 4 hours for about 24 hours I took the casts out and scrubbed them with a toothbrush.

    The Simple Green...
    1) DID NOT melt or compromise the resin.
    2) DID cause some of the paint to stain the resin. You probably won't get a clean white slate again.
    3) DID compromise the plumber's epoxy I had used for minor repairs. It turned green and became crumbly/dusty.

In other words, mission successful. Hope this helps someone save their resin works or strip something without damage in the future.

Im no resin dude but couldnt you have gotten away with acetone..? It wouldve taken like 5 mins. You just wipe with a soaked rag. No soaking the piece. It evaporates so fast i cant see that it would melt resin. And doesnt affect other plastics that much except for cloud them alittle.

Maybe someone that actually works with resin can confirm.

I'm not sure actually, I've never used acetone before and I didn't want to take any risks. The casts were all hand-rotocast since I'm too broke to buy a pressure pot. Too much effort put into casting to risk ruining them any further.
I read somewhere online that laquer thinner can make resin soft, so I tried to stay away from that kind of stuff.

Definitely curious about the acetone though, can anyone confirm?

Acetone won't damage resin unless you soak it. Nail polish remover is just watered down acetone.

I tried using nail polish remover at first and it kind of just smeared the paint around. Don't think it was strong enough. Maybe next time I'll pick up some regular acetone and try it out.
    Thanks!

    Did you use acrylic ?

There are acrylic paint removers you can find at most art stores nowadays.
