Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Brian on the show but I'm not sure I'm going to watch every episode. I don't want to start thinking there's something wrong with me just because there is Japanese vinyl in every room of my home.

Found the show quite entertaining, some stuff seemed staged? Who knows but like it overall and will continue to watch it.

The catwoman collecter segment would have been cooler if the host had actually provided tips on how he could focus his collecting habit more. Dude was a loose cannon.

i love his response to his lady pressing him on buying something random. "I collected everything ok! Everything with her image on it."

the show was great. slightly awkward when she wouldn't sell any loose figures to Brian when he almost doubled his offer. The expression on Brian's face when he realized he was only going to get Wicket was priceless. L

They need to come to Australia...I have a friend here and his TF collection is stacked to the roof and covers every inch of his apartment so you can't move. He has little alleys that lead to the bedroom, bathroom and the kitchen.
He's super autistic though and he spends every cent he owns on TFs and has done since 1985...he buys whole estate lots like a mofo.

I wish with the cat woman dude she did help him 'manage' his collection instead of just making him sell it all, she would have sold some and bought him some cases for the house and displayed it all properly.

Who hides their collection in circumstances that let it rot and then imagine it to be worth ten times more than it is? Catwoman-man was definitely the oddball in the bunch. Collect without shame!

Cardboard boxes stored in the garage is the true sign of a serious collector. Truly. What was that dude thinking?

That bust he was fighting to keep was just meh. I wish the parting of his collection was more healthy for him and that we got to see what he kept and finally properly displayed.

Post Re: Collection Intervention - SyFy Network
I watched the first episode online on the syfy site. Ehhhh my complaint (much like others have pointed out) is the host seems a little to quick to "just sell it all". She definitely makes a beeline to the rarer vintage items, pawning them off to predatory dealers, and these folks then seem to be left with the 'crap'. Why not clear the crap and focus more on displaying the rare stuff? Or maybe just sell only some of the rare stuff? She needs to focus on collection management beyond selling. I'd love to see a after shot of managable very focused display cases/shelves.

I know ebay fees can take a chunk out of sales BUT I felt bad for the catwoman guy. I mean I don't get why he never tried there or an auction house first? Even if those boxes weren't in perfect condition, I'm sure some of the toys were rare even without the box. Having the box was a huge plus. Dealers aren't going to give you the best deal because they want to profit from resale. It's painful to watch collectors do bulk lots like that.

Lixx, you should host the show!
I hope they at least paid the Catwoman guy well to be on the show.

LOL. I'd love to do that. Being paid to travel and talk to collectors would be the greatest gig ever! I would definitely not be condescending towards them. I'd personally rather see a show that focused on nicely displayed collections, talked about the toys more, maybe hear some rare find stories.

Me too, but that would be real show as opposed to a reality show. "Reality" TV thrives on conflict and "drama," ugh. :?

Post Re: Collection Intervention - SyFy Network
Just saw the episode. I hope you drive back there and give Wicket back...

I'm appalled. First Elsye the auctioneer says that they needed to pair down the Star Wars collection to make room, and the next minute she brings in Brian to cherry pick the tiniest Ewok relinquishing no added space in the process. Really?? But first...offering 300 for the lot of vintage loose figures. If I as a picker went in I'd go straight for the vintage figures too. How about some of the 2011 2012 large boxed items I see in the background. That would relieve the most space. Yeah Yeah I understand it was meant to be a baby step for her to give up an item..blah..blah.. but really? That Ewok made the girl cry. How about the boxed Walmart exclusive crap from a couple months ago, that crap she can't be that attached to yet. That figure lot if bought would have just been flipped at those Friday Star Wars trading parties I heard about...

What Elsye neeeeeeddsssss to do is bring an Ikea truck to these people houses and help them with display and storage problems....

The poor guy with the Catwoman collection in the garage had to hid his shit from his new wife for fear of her thinking that he is a fckin nerd. He really didn't have that much stuff in the garage, and just either needed some shelving and glass cases or some plastic tubs instead of the ratty cardboard boxes. Supposedly he wasn't paying his mortgage really???? Well Elsye appraised his stuff at $4,500. Doesn't sound like a mortgage killer to me....especially since a good portion of the stuff they showed wasn't recent. OOOOOO yeah he also was taken to a comic/vintage toy shop(every real collector knows the worst place to sell with their lowball offers due to overhead), to sell his Steve Austin 6 Million dollar Man fig. He was told the box was shit and offered 50 bucks. Here's one that sold with a box just as shitty possibly more shitty for $375.....http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-SIX-MILLIO ... 3a77d5e28b. Then he goes outside and tells the wife I know it's worth more than that, to the your crazy look on her face.

Really what these people need are basements. The show should be fckn called basement intervention. I'm east coast we have basements. West Coast not so many.

There's something missing with her. It's the down and dirty collector heart. She collects Marx posters, because her X husbands name was Marx....oh that's recent. Old French art, and older wooden toys. Just seems it's a thing that spawned from a high profile auctioneer job rather than something that we all have been doing since we were 5 years old. I have every toy I ever bought or was bought for me, born bread, live, breathe. Sure her knowledge exceeds most of ours on certain areas of the hobby but it's her job. Cold, corporate, job. Sure she says most of the right things, to stave off nerd rage, but mine will probably grow and grow as I see more of this abomination.

It's bad enough that we are thought of as hoarders, and maybe she will try to help change that perception, by throwing out a quick sentence about it here and there, but we all come up against crap from our spouses about our collections and this won't help that. (99.99% of females hate nerdy things)(It's an image thing)

Female worst nightmare conversation with her girlfriends example 1:
--My husband has 5 cigarette boats with the dock crane
--My husband's only interest is to go to Cabo 10 times a year
--My husband loves vintage male designer couture

--uhhh my husband collects vintage Hanna Barbera Grape Ape shit

Between the Toy Hunter from my state Jersey competing with me for hunting in my neck of the woods and teaching Grandma to jack up the prices at her yard sale this Saturday to levels that resemble $365 for a 12 Inch TMNT Krang cause Toy Hunter says there's gold in the attic, and the intervention woman pushing selling, Kevin Smith's comic book men throwin out lowballs, and Mid town comics new show letting everyone think that old comics could hit 1.2 mill, this new Nerd reality TV is exploitation just like any other.

Excuse me I have like 3 episodes of Honey Boo Boo on the DVR I need to watch to make myself feel better about my life...

For some odd reason, my cable company has the next episode, due to air on Tuesday, on demand today. It features a collector of action figures who also has a nice shelf of vintage Bullmarks and lots of Godzilla toys. The host convinces him to sell a bunch of the Godzillas including his MIB Popy Jumbosaurus so he can concentrate on the action figures instead.
