Ummmm sadly yes I've had quite a few days like that! Actually scratch that, I'd probably wager I've spent a full 10 years of my life (if added up altogether- i'm 46 now) in that state AT THE VERY LEAST (low estimate). Am I happy about that? Nope. I'm pretty much 'when keeping it real goes wrong' at least once a week.

'Marc's Niece' was funny because how Maron feels about the Shad Shack is how I feel about millenials in general.

This season has been the best yet, so funny and on point.

And yeah, Mad Marc is the story of my life also. The intro nailed it.

Gotta catch up on the newer episodes. I provided toys for the background 2nd season but I don't think they made it on camera. Marc is a fan of toys and they were going to let me put in my own stuff for the 3rd season but they changed set directors.

The Podcast is always a good listen even when Obama is boring to listen to.

    Hmm, thats weird.

I've never heard him mention toys and i've been listening to his stuff for a long time.
He never really mentioned toys when he talked to COOP on WTF either . . . .

Saying that though, i did notice a Marc Maron doll on a shelf in that picture of the President
    and him in his garage.

Maybe he's insecure about admitting to liking toys in public!

Could be a lie. I was told by the production company. They did seek out toys but he may have not even known about it. Hollywood!

I really enjoyed this year's two-part opener. What could have been ham-handed and preachy was actually pretty hilarious and effective.

Much credit is surely due to the director of the proceedings, Mrs. Lynn Shelton. She is a weaver of television and cinematic gold.

Yeah i thought that as well. I must say though, being a fan of Marc for a long time, i've heard his stories about drug addiction
in multiple formats over the years and now they feel like they are being re-hashed yet again. Obviously the guy he's playing
on the show is a 'character' but its all reminiscent of his real life . . .

I thought the 'living in a storage locker' theme was a great idea, and i'm enjoying the chemistry between Marc and the other people
in the rehab centre. Funny stuff.

Oh, and they fell into a Hollywood cliché. The rule is, if you are a man and have any kind of mental breakdown you must grow
a big scraggly beard as a visual indicator. Apparently only men with long beards can be drop-outs . . . .

I just listened to the secret skin podcast where open mike eagle interviews marc. Its a good interview, lots of talk about behind the scenes on 'Maron'.

    That show is on a tight schedule. Tight as a Gnat's chuff . . . .

Ha, what a pleasant surprise - and keen eye on spotting that fella, David! Plopped right there on the interview table too, a real place of honour. So great to see. :)

Cool, i haven't watched that one, yet.

So this is the last season then? That's what The Maron is saying . . . .

Oh really? I haven't been following that closely so I hadn't heard that. That's too bad; might not be the best show, but it is fairly entertaining, and I can't see it taking all that much to make either - aside from getting the guest stars - but who knows.

He mentioned it on a recent pod. Referenced British shows and how many of them only last a few series . . . they go out on a high, and all that.
Says he probably could of continued but feels he's done all he can do with it, without repeating himself.

I'd say its a good season to go out on, i've been enjoying it a lot.

Would that be podcast, television show, or comedy? Or just generally as a person?

Comedians/comedy due tend to provoke very polarising tastes, so I am not surprised at all that any certain particular subject won't appeal to everyone. Some folks think Everybody Loves Raymond is genius, others... not so much,

^^ I totally get why somebody would NOT like Maron . . . he's not for everyone, and thats an understatement.
I was into his comedy albums a long time before the podcast etc . . .

    That is very true.

@The Moog I think he's a bitter unfunny bastard. I don't even know how he is classified as a comedian. His whole schtick is derivative of the "angry / damaged Jewish comedian with issues". It is beyond played. Maybe he was funny a decade (or two?) ago...He just seems so unrelatable to me. Plus his personality is just so douchey and his ego is out of control.

Man what a great ending to a fantastic series. Maron pulled off exactly what Louis CK has been trying to do without it feeling forced and heavy-handed.

Fair enough - thanks for elucidating!
Personally i love all kinds of stand-up comedy and Maron is just one on a long list of comics i listen to, so i dont think he's the best by a long way but he does still make me laugh. His recent special 'More Later' was a bit different in style. He seems to be mellowing with age.

I do agree his ego is waaaay bigger now he's had some success in his career. I've never seen him as 'douchey' though. He does seem to flirt and condescend to some of his female guests in a slightly creepy way, but i dont see it as 'douchey'.

I thought the last couple of Maron episodes (ever) were pretty good . . .

Drafting-in M.C. Gainey and Ron Perlman to add some gravitas and character to the book-store guys was a smart move.
I liked the way he ended it.

Well, I'm a little late to this and I haven't actually seen Maron yet, but I doubt I'm going to find it "much better than Louie". I know Louie lost a lot of fans after the first two seasons when the show became less concerned with yucks and became more of an artsy, "kick Louie while he's down" sort of meditation, but I never really found it preachy (or at least the preachiness didn't bother me). Well, excepting the aforementioned "fat girl" episode. That was like a "very special Louie" or something and was tonally weird.

At any rate, I've heard enough that I'm certainly going to check this Maron joint out, but I'm not expecting it to be the second coming of Louie. For me, anyway.
