So I've been wanting to do a Kappa figure for some time and decided to take this month off to just sculpt stuff. Super excited about this one, Im sure you can see the obvious inspiration.
Figure right now is 19 inces tall. Actual Ceramic ficures will shrink down a couple inches.

Hope you all like the figure!

Really good work here. I like the nod to Garamon with the positioning of the hands.and how the different texture play off of each other. The shell is beautiful. I'm also intrigued by that gorilla head. :)

Great work, I'd love to set up one of these guys in my yard or along a stream somewhere, and see the reaction. And of course, he would have to have a gorilla companion :D

I love the idea of putting these big pieces outside but am always afraid someone will swipe 'em.

The Ape heads are available on my site munktiki.com. Not many instock right now but have more in the works.
Just sculpted a new Ape head, giant sized for wall mounting which is 21 inches tall. I plan on doing a series of giant monster wall mounted heads. Next up is Hedorah.

Holy Hell that rules... I like the future plans ideas!

I have one of the Matangos, I always want to put it in my yard but there's too many bad things that could happen to it. Right now it sits on the fireplace mantle in our den, people love it.

Some kaiju garden gnomes might be fun!

Shit, Miles - you never disappoint! Love your interpretation of the Kappa! So is it about a head taller than your Matangos? And I'm assuming the top of the head is actually dished so it can hold water...
And I can't wait to see the Hedorah heads that you do! Are they going to be based off a toy sculpt, the movie costume, or your own interpretation?

Maybe someday I'll take the plunge into vinyl, I have no interest in spraying them up though.
Yah it will probably be a tad taller than the matango. And the dish will definitely hold water in it.
The hedorah heads will be based on the marusan sculpt. Tweaked of course.
    Thanks for the words

Your stuff is always great, Miles, and this is no exception!
A Garamonic Kappa is really unexpected, and you pulled it off with perfect balance!
I love how you handled the shell.
This guy would look great displayed with the recent Marusan Pygmon and Garamon sculpts, like a huge aquatic cousin- talk about a family shot!

The legs and shell have a cool Mario feel to me and love the Gary influence. Can't wait to see more.

    Man this is amazing !!

Why you never adding vinyl toys to your body of work is beyond me.

Your sculpts are so amazing. Very playful with a hint of creepy.

Going to be watching this for sure :)

I'm pretty new here. But I like what I see. That's a great sculpt. Love that ape head too. Would love to see more pics of your work area/sculpts. It's always a treat to see what sculptors are working on.

    Thanks for the continued words!

Finished the last mold yesterday so I should have an assembled piece soon.
Started a new Bwana collab too :)

I'd wanted to do vinyl for awhile but after doing ceramics in Japan for the 3 months I did realized I really wanted to try and make a mark with the ceramics.

New sculpt in progress.... not sure on a name yet. Ikakumon? Ikumon(a bit too close to Baikins Kumon perhaps?) Any suggestions?

Its obviously a Squid/Spider mutation. It will eventually have tentacles hanging underneath it.
