Yeah, you can happen upon some pretty amazing sights here, outdoors.
These pics were taken on the banks of the Winooski, behind the Quaker meeting house in our town.

Late Friday night, I was driving home from Burlington, and it was really dark (streetlights in Vermont are few and far between, and we have no billboards (by law)). I got onto a long, quiet stretch of road just before my village...I was passing over the bridge when a huge, moving grey/brown shape caught my eye thru the passenger's side of my windshield. Mine was the only car in sight on the road; I turned around and headed back toward the bridge, flicked my beamers on, and there, perched on a low (about 3.5' high) metal post right on the shoulder was a big barn owl. He must have been just landing or fanning his wings as I drove by the first time. I got a long, close-up look at him...the little badass just sat there, staring at me thru the windshield. Good stuff.

Heh heh. Sweet.

I drove from MA to VT (Brattleboro) a couple years ago. Damn near fell asleep on the way back. Had to pull into a hotel parking lot and catch some Z's. Last time I try to make that drive and back in one day. ;)

Poor little guy's last few moments before that bully Redking shows up to step on the ice. Let's hope the Science Patrol tracking balloon works as a buoyant lifesaver. Tread lightly on thin ice ... it's a Lawless Monster Zone out there!

Great photos. :-)

Nice pics! Also, I love spotting owls - they are much easier to hear than they are to see.

He looks so at home. If I were to see this in real life it almost wouldn't seem out of the ordinary.
