Post subject:  SD Gundams for you gundam-heads out there.
This is my SD gundam collection. These are by Bandai, and are the action figures--not the kits. These were so much fun to collect; I was a little late in the game so many were sold out or on clearance at my local toy shops, but that made it fun and inexpensive to hunt down! some of these transform, and all of them have some kind of action feature (light up eyes, something opens, shoots, etc)

I didn't fix them with their accessories and stuff. I'll have to rearrange my stuff so that they have more room for the weapons.

Those look really good all together like that. I didn't realize there where so many. I have a couple, the Heavy Arms (endless waltz ver) and a Deathscythe. How though are they to find?

I've always check ebay for these things even though I have them all (maybe I can have some MIB for safe keeping). anyway, I only see maybe deathscythe hell (endless waltz) and maybe sandrock custom, and the GP-01. The other are pretty much impossible for me to find at this point--but I haven't checked yja.

Heavy Arms custom was my first and favorite and I've NEVER seen this one for sale domestically or online except for gofigure.com since after I got it almost 4yrs ago (and it was the last one). All the others I've seen once or twice. There's this online store gofigure.com and they had all of the ones you see in the pics for sale (for $$ now), but when I contacted them about what's in stock, they pretty-much sold out of everything long ago.

I have the Zako Soldier (Zaku), it's a lot of fun.

Which was the hardest one for you to track down? I know that there was some big rolling base thing released towards the end.

oooh! I never even heard of that! I'll have to look that up somehow.

These were still fairly easy to find when i was collecting them a couple years ago, but I guess the Endless Waltz Nataku was the hardest for a while...but shortly after I scored it, they were popping up pretty often. If I hadn't have scored the Customs Heavy Arms early on (thanks to my girlfriend's casual gift-shopping run for her little cousins--little cousins who are now custom heavy arm-less...muhuhahaw) I would STILL be looking for the heavy arms SD figure.

the Nu Gundam was pretty tough too.

yeah, I couldn't get into the kits, myself. I just didn't have the patience, so I went the lazy, action figure route. When you're ready, please post some pics of your SDs!

SD Gundam model kits are the first and only model kits I was ever into. I got rid of all of them recently, but kept the RX-78GP02A, my #1 favorite Gundam ever. I should get the action figure to match.

I feel a little weird posting Gundum stuff to this forum, Lord knows theres already a plethora of places out there devoted to this madness...








Having said that, here's a shot of the big SD thing. I don't think I've ever known what it was called. I'm much to lazy to take it down from the shelf, but it transforms into a big SD Gundam. .

Nice! I had 5 - 10 in the early 90s...I think they were figures but they came unassembled. No idea where they are now, sadly.

Hmm, I recall seeing a bunch of these in a local store not so long ago, at the original retail (they never, ever rotate their stock). Maybe I'll take a look this weekend.

Didn't care too much for the stylized SD toys from that cartoon, but I did like the SD versions of the U.C./etc. universe Gundam suits.

They're really neat! What's their exact name? I'll try and track some down.

SD Gundam gachas are what actually got me in the toy scene. I have hundreds of them lying around... And with my kids playing with them constantly, they're now in tiny pieces all over. One day, I'll try and match arms, backpacks and guns to the right torsos...

I also have a gazillion keshis. I actually pranked my cube-mate with them a few months ago:

Cool! Ha, I have a few of those keshi too; how did your work mate react?
I found these at a local bookstore. The line is called Gundam Converge. I do love the original '79 Mobile Suit Gundam series, but don't care for much after that.

I've never been an anime fan to any degree but I definitely have a soft spot for Gundam. While I've only ever watched a couple of its series (though never finished them), I was into 0079 and Wing for a bit in my teens.

I'm super curious -- What drew you to collect Gundam toys if not for the shows/movies. Do you just like the designs?

On a similar note -- I consider myself to be very aesthetically inclined. What I mean is that if a tv show, movie, video game, design, animation style, whatever it may be, has a visual aesthetic that I don't like, my interest drops dramatically. I have always collected toys that I like based on an almost purely visual level. Because of this, my collection used to have tons of licensed kaiju just because I thought they looked cool. I could probably tell you what show they came from but I may have not known much more about the character or its story. When I thought about it this way, it felt kind of goofy to me (personally), and I started to dwindle my collection to the original / pachi indie side of things.

Rei! I really love the look of those SD sculpts, nice pickups! After seeing them on your ig, I did some Googling but couldn't find out what series they were from. I'm gonna have to look them up now as well.

Haha, yes I think my collecting them comes from reasons similar to yours. When I lived in Japan, there were gachagacha machines selling the smaller SDs close to where I lived, so I ended picking up a few because I liked the design... Then I moved to Hong Kong and stores were selling complete series for almost nothing. I bought the new ones every month till they filled almost every flat surface in my room. I stopped when I moved out, and now they're the kids' toys. I'm often tempted to catch up and get the series I missed (ten years x 12 series x 6 figures... eek!), but my lack of space problem didn't get better since!

I'm the same with Star Wars. I think the movies are pretty dismal, even the old ones, but I love their ships and aesthetic, so I collect their Lego versions. It's a pain in the ass to have people assume I am a huge SW fan all the time, but I guess it can't be avoided.

I sincerely hope the same reasoning applies for people into Transformers and MotU toys! :lol:

Ha! I do admit to being a Transformers fan, but it's only because of Beast Wars, which is the reason I started collecting them. In my opinion it's the only Transformers series worth watching...

I was never really into the SD Gundams until recently when i got this kit for free from the hobby shop I get my models at.

The ecopla series is really nice. Recycled plastic, all black..

So I came across this 2nd wave of little "build model" tinies! They're made of soft (eraser?) rubber, and each little piece comes apart from the rest (making the figures articulated) and is molded in its own color, so there's no paint. However, just from light handling, the corners and edges show whitening/wear due to the softness of the material. I love the proportions & concept; now to find that damned 1st wave...
