I wouldn't call it clear... more like very translucent (brownish?). It is really nice how the appearance changes quite dramatically depending how much light is on it and where the light is coming from.

Note that I did not say "shit."

No, it is translucent vinly painted on the outside.

Soft Vinyl Hard Core is correct.
