So I just got in some stuff from various companies (Slash/B-Club/Popy). I believe they are all from what is known as the 'King Zaurus' line. Maybe some elder vintage collector can school me on that line. I know they are originally from Popy molds, but the only actual Popy figure here is the Gigasu. Very pleased with these, as I love the roughness and crude sculpts. First off I have some Goji: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Goji in the back is around 10". Supposedly the Giant size, by B-Club. The next one also by B-Club is their Large but it looks more Medium. The next (with gold teeth) is by Slash. Just looks like a smaller sized Medium. The mini came with the Large version and is super awesome. He is super mini but very detailed. These guys take the sting out of losing on the Beetland bank Goji. Actually I really want one of the mini's that came with those! Next up we have the vintage Popy Gigasu: ![]() ![]() note my super awesome g/f's cool terrarium in background ![]() Now some Slash Baragon/ Attacking Goji (Attacking Goji is much bigger than I thought!): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hopefully other people will post pics of theirs in this thread. Oh and yes I magically made these fit on the shelves! |

Amazing selection of stuff Chris, beautiful colours on the Slash stuff. Time for an updated Tokyo shot... That Goji conga is great! You should sell your Detolf Tardis technology - how the hell did all the new stuff fit in?!? |

Thanks Ian. The irony of it all is I didn't really have many Goji before this (just some M1). Since he's the 'King', glad to see he's all over my collection now. That Hawaiian shelf is funny now: ![]() Absolutely no space as I had to put some minis in the back! Notice the mini legend hedorah floating over the Gamerudon! He's actually resting on his back. ![]() How I fit stuff in is by twisting arms/tails. My favorite trick is to put a smaller figure in front of a larger one and tuck the smaller tail under the legs of the larger figure. Oh and I also use clear plastic boxes (from a craft chain here in the states- Michaels). The advantage of these over traditional risers is that they open up. So when I lay them down in the back I get the riser but also if I put a figure with a long tail in front of them I can park it inside the plastic box. Saves a lot of space. There's my two trade secrets. |

It hurts - IT HURTS! (But in a good way...not in a "Bwana-custom" sort of way. ![]() I've only got one of these guys - the black/silver. Great little sculpt, but I love those COLORS! |

Awesome thread Lixx, you cant beat classic Popy sculpts. For some reason I dont own any (unless you count the Beetland lamp which is pretty close). Whats cool about King Zaurus ultra kaiju is they can be had for pretty cheap and there were tons of different characters made. This thread is definitely making me want to get some!! |

Viva, I think that Beetland Lamp you have is as close to the Popy Giant Goji as you can get. From the CT pics you can tell it is different, but they look really similar. To me Popy/ King Zaurus stuff appeals in the same way Butanohana appeals to a lot of folks here (unfortunately for my wallet they both appeal to me). The size is smaller in most cases but not too small. The sculpts are crude and rough but have a lot of character. Can you shed some light on what the King Zaurus line means? Aside it being a kaiju character why are these toys from the King Zaurus line? Is it from an actual film? |

Ive wondered the same thing, why does the toy line share the same name as a random kaiju from return of ultraman? It dont think its from any film though. In 78 when Popy started making vinyl kaiju they ran re-runs of some of the classic ultra shows to get kids that where too young at the time interested in monsters. This era is known as the "third kaiju boom". Hopefully someone else can chime in that knows the origin of the name though. |
