Since abandoning instagram when it was bought by facebook, I've searched to fill the filter void. While not really being that into the social aspect of instagram the filters were pretty neat to mess around with. I just realized this morning I still have a really great program called Pixlr-O-Matic, and it just so happens they have a ton of new filters and layouts for it. I updated and went to work on my new favorite subject: Redman. Yes very Warhol-esque but so much fun!: ![]() jinxredman by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr ![]() jinxred by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr ![]() jinxredman1 by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr ![]() redmansanna by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr ![]() redmansophia by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr And one of my faves I've dubbed 'acid sheet': ![]() doublejinx by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr Here's the program, it's free: http://pixlr.com/o-matic/ |

LOL. Yeah I know. I have photoshop, and it's a good program. You can definitely tweak photos and do more with them, but on a whole I've always found it a bit clumsy and hard for a novice like myself to navigate. |

That ensures that novices don't try to replace real life graphic designers like myself, but it still happens. I can't begin to count the abysmal pieces of crap that I see pass for designs on a daily basis. With that being said, having a cracked copy of Photoshop on your computer doesn't make someone a designer. Owning a hammer doesn't make someone a carpenter. Just don't ever use Publisher or Powerpoint. Please, god. But let's not get into a 'desktop publishing' discussion. More filtered toy photos! |

Ha, banshee you sound like my girlfriend. She went to school for graphic design/illustration and her biggest complaint is most companies would rather give some slack jawed college kid a six pack and try an get real design for next to nothing! I hear you. I know these filters aren't true art per se, and it's just me choosing the right filters, but I still like to think I have a creative eye. |

Check out Cameramatic. It seems to be what inspired instangram. There is a ton more filter and customization shit, it just lacks the social aspect. Most things I post on instangram have just been edited with Cameramatic first It's worth the 1.99 if you like the square format, lo-fi iPhone photos |

No let's! ![]() Just wanted to say that I can't count the number of times designers offered their services for $45/h to design flyers for events at the store that would bring max $200 in profit. I did the crappy photoshopping myself, thankyouverymuch. |

Side note to this discussion: I'm so sick of every field on the planet suddenly needing a college degree. It's the biggest scam of the 21st century. I mean I can see in certain fields (science, law, medicine) only having a interest or aptitude will get you so far, but come on anything to do with the arts you either have it or you don't. College is just an excuse to go mess with gear and network. Plenty of so called artists go to school with zero talent and get jobs they shouldn't afterwards. |
