Do these work close enough to V-Color for Vinyl? |

You will need a really good protective coating once you're done painting. Shapeshifta used Tamiya and might still use it. I've used it to test out on a piece. Needless to say I'm not too happy with the way it turned out but then again, it could be due to my lack of skill. The biggest difference between the 2: Tamiya paint will rub off a bit too easy if you're pretty rough when handling your figure. If you take your figure apart to paint, there's a good chance you might scratch the paint off when you put it back together. Tamiya will also take longer to dry. V-color, from what I've read, bonds with vinyl on a chemical level. It will still scratch off but it is a lot more permanent than Tamiya. It will also dry much faster than Tamiya. Be warned, chemical reaction = not very good for your health so you should look out for number 1. There are others here with a whole hell of a lot more experience than myself, but I thought I'd just throw in what I've learned....and as they say...GET PAINTING!! |

Tamiya paint is what I used for the custom show pieces I did. Like gatcha said it does chip off way easier than v-color. I had troubles putting it back together. I touched it up after putting it all together. It also has a matt finish. I sprayed Mr.Super Clear by Mr.Hobby at the end to give it a gloss finish. If it's for just display I think it's cool but once it falls to a hard floor it may do some scratch damage. |

I use Tamiya and Mr Hobby when I do garage kits(as well as Vallejo). I have done all my custom toys with Tamiya or Mr Hobby and there have been some minor issues, all I was able to work around probably because I have been doing garage kits for over a decade. Although I have not used V-color yet, I would recommend it just from the results I see here, its made for vinyl as Tamiya and Mr Hobby are for garage kits vinyl, plastic or resin. |
