Well the dye will rub off.

I dyed a real head figure 2 years ago and it still looks the same.

It's important if you dye vinyl to get the extra dye out and to set the dye.

1. After dying, soak in really hot (near boiling) water until the dye stops coming out.
2. Then soak in really cold (near freezing) water overnight.

This should set most dyes and prevent both leaking and having any dye rub off.

I wonder if a thin coat of good old-fashioned shellac wouldn't work to seal it ... If anyone wants to try it, Zinsser's Sealcoat is OK so long as it's fresh (shellac has a short shelf life once it's mixed - best is to mix your own from the flakes and alcohol).

The link that was posted will tell you what happens when you dye real x head vinyl. I think coasterbear can attest to how much I've used dye in the past, and none of it has come off, but with these figs, it just bleeds like crazy. Maybe it was just the color?

Sorry Melek, I forgot to comment, the chaos looks really good! Like manimal said, I'd like to see all the figs in one shot! You have a nice color palate!

great custom job
looks edible

I usually add soda ash (sodium carbonate) to dye baths when dying fabric. It is supposed to strengthen the bond between the fibers and the dye molecules. maybe this works for hard vinyl too

Anyone have any experience with clear soft vinyl and dyes? I'm hoping that the clear Zagaron vinyl will take the dye to my assumption that the clear soft vinyl is slightly more porous(?) than solid vinyl.
I don't have a airbrush and was hoping for that transparent coloring and fading and using spray paint for accents.
Any advice?

Clear Skuttles take to dye like fleas take to a hound dog. So you should be golden.

I have found that dye works well with the hot and cold baths as stated. But I agree with Lash in that the right paint can be superior to dye. I am actually the most satisfied so far with the way the dye/paint application on this most recent custom turned out. I am now leaning more toward using dye as a nice, even basecoat and then paint for details. We'll see where this evolution takes me...
I had planned on posting pics of these 3 together, but alas, the Chaos and Evil sold in SF this weekend. They are now at a happy new home, in very good company from what I hear.
