You just can't fuck with the Cronic x NerdOne collabs. Even folks that don't like Cronic seem to dig them. I was wondering why they hadn't done something for the Maverasu yet, seems like the most popular sculpt next to the Zyurai...

I've never done any kind of clay sculpture before so this was a shot in the dark. I guess it's ok for a first attempt, but it's fucking hard as hell working in such a small scale and I'm a serious fumbler. I practically had a heart attack trying to get this thing into the oven for curing.

I'd love to make a 2-piece silicon mold to cast these in resin but I don't think it's possible with the spikes pointing outward like this... I'd have to make a much more symmetrical design for it to be possible. Then I'd have to learn the first thing about resin casting...

Anyway, here's some fan art I tried when I was feeling slightly adventurous. I'll try some more in the next few weeks when I have time, and if I have enough stamina maybe I'll try to cast them with resin for some fun.

Very cool! I think you could pull a few casts out of a silicone mold - that stuff is pretty tough and resilient. The sharpness of the spikes might start ripping it after a little while, but it's small enough that it'd be worth a try. Although, getting the resin to fill all the spikes might be kinda tough...initially I thought it was a full head that you sculpted, but it's a helmet, so the "hollow" area that the head fits into makes it a little more problematic.

Thanks man, I guess if you're sculpting something like this specifically for resin, you have to plan ahead to the molding process and taylor the sculpt with that in mind... I really had no plans of making a mold, since I thought I'd basically suck at sculpting anyway. I've always been on the fence about resin figures, but the DIY factor is obviously a huge draw.

Front shot is pretty dope. I too am a whore for Nerd One's stuff. I tried something for the mav myself but didnt like, have a few others I might try though.

I know of the yellow Mav w/ Nerd One piece but it wasn't an add-on or anything, right? I molded the clay to the head while sculpting so the fit is perfect, stays on really well...

Thx for the words guys, I'm not a 3D artist in any way so this is totally new territory for me.
