With this one I tried a few new things (well, new to me). It started out as a SOLID figure. I dyed it purple, sprayed it, cleared it, and added mini googlies. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That looks fantastic! Really great colors and I love the googly eyes! The quality looks production. You say that you dyed it? btw...Can I ask what kind of gloss your using and does it seem durable? I've been experimenting with new top coats and I really like the shine on this Hedo. |

this sucks! nah actually it doesnt... i like the colors and the technique. and the photo makes it feel like its fresh out of the bath. my only critique would be i would like to see some of the chesty color used on the back, just a tad to tie it up together. |

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm glad (some) of you like this one. REdYOdA wrote: You say that you dyed it? Yup. RIT dye. The powder kind. This was definitely an experiment for me and I'm pretty happy with the result. I did a little homework (mostly on this site) to figure out the process and went for it. I recently bought a bunch of SOLID figures and I don't want to waste VCOLOR to basecoat them. The dye works for me. I dyed four Gargamel minis over the weekend and they came out fine. The important part is to re-boil them, after you've dyed them, in clean water. This removes excess dye. REdYOdA wrote: Can I ask what kind of gloss your using and does it seem durable? It's been popular among scale modelers (airplanes, cars, etc.) for quite a while but this is what the new packaging looks like. It's an acrylic clear coat that seems to work great. It flows through an airbrush unthinned and I've read that you can thin it for more of a matte finish if you want. I can't really speak to its durability, but it seems pretty good. The interesting thing about this is that, being a floor finish, it's self-leveling...that is to say, as it dries, it kind of smooths itself out. It's hard to explain but if you try it out you'll understand what I mean. havingmysay wrote: this sucks! nah actually it doesnt... i like the colors and the technique. and the photo makes it feel like its fresh out of the bath. my only critique would be i would like to see some of the chesty color used on the back, just a tad to tie it up together. Thanks for the thoughtful critique. I'm not sure how it would've worked on this one, but I'll keep it in mind for next time. It seems that well-painted monsters have a certain sense of balance to the colors used and where those colors are placed on the figure. Finding it is the hard part. |

Well I think cheerleading is deserved for good product. And this is good product! Great colors and a gloSsy sheen. |

Thanks! I have read about using Future before in a modeling forum, it was used on plastic figures though so I was skeptical for vinyl. Looks good though. It's acrylic so it may dull on you with handling...same as vinyl flooring will dull over time after polishing. I may try it on a solid figure though...thanks for the info! ![]() Oh, and any gloss top coat you use, you want it to be self leveling or it will show brush stokes or peaks. |

The gloss looks great but the color combination doesn't really work. It doesn't add anything to the sculpt. It just looks like a different colored hedoran. Keep painting and get the right color combination and it would slay. I'm not saying the technique is bad nor the execution. It's just seems that everyone who buys paints these days and puts up a toy gets a "that rules." There isn't any objective criticism. |
