Hello ‘brainers! Checking in to share my most recent Garamania post with you- a spot about a custom M1-GO Garamon I recently completed, which I’ve dubbed “Ash of Death”: http://garamania.blogspot.com/2009/06/ash-of-death.html A little bit about my inspiration for the piece can be found in this recent post: http://garamania.blogspot.com/2009/06/gara-innards-ash-of-death.html I'm pretty psyched with how he came out... the process went quite smoothly, and in the end, he really ended up matching quite closely the concept I had in my head. Turning my attention to the red blank next… Thanks for looking! |

Those skulls on the back definitely add a certain freakiness to the custom. |

The eyes have some great "pop" against that subtle green! |

Great back story and an interesting custom...I love it! I really enjoyed seeing the translated Garamon anatomy pic too!!! I have the 2008 re-print Ultra Anatomy book which I posted a few large size scans on my blog...including the Garamon page with a link to buy the book. http://kaijuart.com/2008/12/10/new-ultra-kaiju-anatomy-book/ |

Guys, thanks so much for all the compliments! Very much appreciated- this is my first custom since I did that pair of Y-MSF Hedorahs back in 2006! (Well, it's the first one I've completed since '06- I have many half-finished projects in bins and boxes- but at least half will be done before '09's out- this I swear!) GERMS- yup, he's for real- I did use Photoshop to adjust the lighting a bit, brighten 'em up, but that's it! This guy has so much subtle color going on, and different things really come out depending on what kinda lighting you view him under. Lee- for the eyes, after cutting away the vinyl, I inserted clear acrylic beads, and sprayed a reflective fluorescent orange paint inside his head (and thus on the backsides of the beads). The resulting effect of depth is really cool, and his eyes truly look like glowing LED's when they catch the light! I used a wad of two-part epoxy putty to cement the eyes in the head, which I pigmented by mixing in some pink paint. Because the orange spray only hit the inside tops of the beads sparsely, the pink shows through there- so that when you tip him straight back away from you and then tip him forward, you can watch the eye color fade from pink to the fluoro orange- 'scool!! The ashy skull-fungus was made with pieces I pillaged from the shell of Fewture's big figure of Jinmen, the turtle-demon from Devilman. (I had that guy lying around for years, waiting to put him to just such a use.) Yoda- thanks for the link! I gotta grab that book, at some point! Cheers, all! |

Great concept and execution! I don't recall seeing anything like that pulled off on a custom yet. The contrast between the blackened skulls and the Garamon works really well. |
