The Shinto is mainly finished, The Hujilli's Ghost, has a couple of days left of work. The Hujilli is my first attempt at painting from the interior, I'm in the middle of painting about 5 things at once right now, but these are a few that I'm really having fun with.

Thanks Evom, the Hujilli's Ghost is my first try at painting from the inside, Trying it was inspired by Rich's clear Ollie he painted purple and green on the inside.

I added two more customs.

you did a fine job on Ojo Rojo sir! All the linework looks really clean, and I love the turquoise.

You should make sure Martin sees it.

I'm liking your colour choices. And yes, I especially like the pocker ojo rojo as well! Oh! And the green batsies are looking good too!!

Any feedback on the Cyclops would be appreciated, I'm going to be painting a run of them with another artist, and I want to know what people think. It's 9 1/2 inches tall and made of soft vinyl. If you hate it please feel free to say so, but tell me why.

I just don't think bright colors or this color combination work on the cyclops. TThey work awesome on Patsy Batsy, and Ojo(those are great) but this guy need to feel more natural to me.

Everything feels compartmentalized to me so it doesn't work together as a whole. Everything seems to be fighting for attention. From the waist down is 1 toy, the waist up is another, and the face is a 3rd. I think the purple/red is most successful even though it's an unexpected color for this cyclops. Maybe combine that with black or dark brown with highlights of dark purple on the legs. I'd have to think more on what to do with the face and all the yellow details. Hope this helps.

Thank you, this is the exact sort of feedback I need, when I started I asked someone and they said that I should work on blending it more, I think one of my biggest problems is I over complicate my painting, when a few simple colors would have sufficed. Sometimes it works to my advantage, and sometimes it screws me over, I appreciate the input.

Repainted today after some solid advice for a few people, I'm completely satisfied with the way it turned out now.

Adding all the black did not really help your Geometric Designs Cyclops. Little heavy handed on the paint app. , sometimes less is better.

Did you get the OK from George S, former owner of Geometric and purchaser of the License to release a run of the cyclops ?????

Post subject:  Re: Updated 3/7 Repainted Cyclops...

I didn't add any black the colors used were red, blue, silver, pearl, gold, green, bright red, clear red, and, red. I need to buy a cheap light tent, so I can make the colors pop, without the glare of light. I know you can't please everyone, but I'm really happy with the way he turned out and I wouldn't change a thing now. The only other thing I had thought about doing was giving it either a grey rub, or a light blue rub,to make the details in his face pop, but if you get it in-hand you see it really doesn't need it.

I'm pretty sure I'm free to sell a run of blank models that I've purchased and painted I see this happen all the time, in the model world. I don't think I'm doing anything unethical, considering they were made to paint. If you know something I don't please p.m. me, the last thing I want to do, is taint my name by doing something morally objectionable. I'd rather have issues come out now, rather than after I've painted 10 up and put them in collectors homes.

ok, the new paint application is two hundred percent better.

Post subject:  Re: Updated 3/7 Repainted Cyclops...

i agree two hundred percent with the above comment...

you've tied it together SO much more this time around. and there's so much more texture apparent with the different layers... as opposed to
the very "flat" feel of the first application. for the front on shot, it feels very dark around the face, but on that 3/4 profile shot you really catch
the blue that's still in there, so i'm going to chalk it up to the photos being a bit dark overall. and even though it's still purple and orange, it
doesn't feel cartoonish... there's a menacing feel befitting the sculpt now. very well done!

Post subject:  Re: Updated 3/7 Repainted Cyclops...

Yeah the first shot I lowered the exposure a little more that I should have, just because I wanted to emphasize the paint on the figure, instead of the background, the other shot of the front, is a little closer to reality, if it's in a lit area than you can definitely see the blue in his face, but if it's a little darker, it looks black. Regardless, both photo's are true to the actual colors that are there, the only difference is what kind of light it's shown in.

Thanks for the comments guys, like I said before if you don't like it please say something constructive about why. It only helps me improve.

Also when I finished it, and stepped back to look at it, I thought to myself, "I bet Kirkland will like these colors".

Post subject:  Re: Updated 3/7 Repainted Cyclops...

yeah this new paint app is great! i dont think it needs a rub- the details are apparent enough and i think seeing the details via rub would make it looks too busy and dirty.

if you want a cheap photo setup- go to an arts and crafts store or walmart or wherever and buy a sheet of white poster board, set it up against something so it curves, and put a light on it. its what i do and its really simple and effective!

Updated with better shots of M1GO Hedorah. The Pocket Deathra is also an older custom, but I just put a clear coat on it, and added the Led light.

In case anyone is interested, I'll be selling customs from time to time here,
http://slipstarsofubi.bigcartel.com/
For instance, I put up that Ojo Rojo today.
I also started a blog of my work, and things I find interesting here.
http://slipstarsofubi.wordpress.com/

It's funny because I created the ad for the little Deathra, 3 days before I saw the Shigeru page. It's kind funny how similar they are in form, and content.

So I've been working on a Pestar for a long time now, today and yesterday I hit it hard, but every time I work on his face, something goes wrong. Well I decided to take a break and work on my Ollie tonight, and pumped out what you see in about an hour.

I guess that just says a lot about how fun Rich's sculpt is to paint.

Post subject:  Re: Updated 3/24 OllieTor WIP Photos

Yeah the body is completely finished on Pestar, but the Head is driving me crazy, for instance, I don't know how, but the needle got pushed back a tiny bit (but enough to cause some damage) and when I pulled back on the trigger. to spray some black in the mouth area, I got a full force spray over the whole head. So I had to "erase" the work, and restart, It seems like everytime I get everything finished on the head, and go in to paint the teeth, something like that has happened. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it tomorrow.

Thanks TC.

The feet and legs on that Ollie look fantastic. Really good stuff going on there.

Was this a yellow blank and you haven't decided what to do with the face and mace hand, or was it a design decision to keep them yellow?
