O.K. I've got a question for the painters here, I'm doing a custom paintjob right now, and it's important that I get an answer A.S.A.P. Do you guys like toys painted with visible sharp lines, or do you like them painted with a loose fade mixed into the next color.

Thanks

What an impossible question! It's so very on a toy to toy basis, and often both styles suit different parts of the same toy...
Eyes, teeth and parts of a uniform demand a clean lines, scales and bellies demand a looser approach. Overspray can be the most brilliant part of a colorway, and a neatly applied iris can be the difference between a total winner and B-Club bunky!

How's that for not very helpful!

at first glance I thought the title was "Loose or Tight? Pants Question".

That being said, I appreciate color fades more so than masked paint, but a good rub would be my favorite personally.

Especially in tight pants!

All paint looks good when done well to the right figure. Not much help, I know but that's the way I see it.

if it's for yourself, paint how you want
if someone's paying you, paint with their direction...and if their direction is "do whatever you want." then do so. if they don't like it, well...they should give you more direction next time :P

It's for something that's being given away here, so I decided to ask the group, It's kind of hard to ask what to do, when I don't want to ruin the surprise, so I just decided to do this...

I'm a big fan of ultra-clean lines on toys and even a multi-mask approach if that's what it takes. Free sprays are beautiful in their own way and I adore them on certain toys but in general my eyes will naturally gravitate towards super sharp paint lines. A good mix is ideal but maybe I tend to notice one or the other. I am apparently in the minority however so take that for what it's worth

First glance, I thought the thread title said "Loose or Tight? Pant Question".

i'm casting for the minority here...yes, it depends on the piece, but the sloppy paint thing that seems to be so happenin' lately does nothing for me. my heart always sinks a bit when i see some great sculpting with blobs of careless clashing color thrown at it.

it's a look, i suppose...

i like the best of both types working together, ideally. a clean mask with a fade/splatter, and precise details hand brushed on to pop them out.

...but that wasn't a voting option.
