Post subject:  James Jarvis @ Meltdown Comics in LA: Photo Special
I already mentioned in my JJ poll that the James Jarvis appearance at Meltdown last Friday night was a great experience. James is an artist and a gentlemen. The signing line moves slowly because he takes his time, draws amazing sketches, and chats to you .... dead natural like.

Here's some pics from the event, which thanks to free beer, and some very cool attendees, ended up being a whole evening of fun rather than just a signing......

It really looks increadible in person - JJ's line work is amazing - comparable to Crumb and Moebius. Span have a stop motion vdeo of him creating the whole thing.

I don't know if I can see the Moebius influence...

Muton, did you ever read Heavy Metal in the late '70s or early '80s?

I remember a Moebius strip that rarely had any dialog and the main character flew around on this winged creature...If my addled brain is remembering correctly, this character had sort of a big tall hat.

Jarvis' toys seem like a combination of the Muppets with the Simpsons but that may just be me...

Yep Arzak - it's the line work on his drawings, that remnds me of Moebious Chad, not the style.

Yeah, I totally read Heavy Metal in the 70's early 80's - an ideal accompianment to one's teenage years - sex, drugs and rock n roll in one handy monthly magazine....but nerdy enuf for comic geeks too.

I'm in awe of the wall. I can totally see the line style of moebius. Shading and all.
Heavily influenced by all those artists as a child. I'm a fan of early Heavy Metal and my all time favorite has to be Liberatore's Ranxerox. Could explain why I'm as twisted as I am.

Oh yeah. I loved Druillet, really intense.
I still have a collection of all the Heavy Metals from issue 1 to early 90s I think.
I enjoyed the earlier ones the most.

I liked the earlier ones too.

Rich Corben is still my favorite. I long to own an original - and remember passing on bidding on one on ebay about 7 yrs ago...never saw one again.

Anyone know where I might score a Corben OG?

I have an old collection of a Loane Sloan story. Early HM was definitely where it was at. I picked up a pile of mixed old issues of HM for hell cheap awhile back. Enki Bilall (sp?) is another great master from HM. There are quite a few really - I just can't think of their names.
