Post subject: | Most Excellent Old Skool Toy |
Shibby's post in teh Kubrick forum reminded me of a most excellent old skool toy: Bill and Ted? Excellent! For some reason I LOVED the Bill and Ted movies (altho time has dulled me on them now). So, of course, I had to collect the set of figures by Kenner (I think?) from the movie - bear in mind I had to track em down as they weren''t released in the UK, and this was way before ebay and the internet. I never managed to get the phone booth....BUT.. amongst others I did manage to get the guitar and amp set where you plugged the amp into the figure and then the amp into a walkman. By sqeezing the legs togther on the figure, his arm would swing down and hit his guitar completing the connection to allow a most excellent guitar solo to erupt from the mini Marshall stack. Multiple leg squeezing resulted in a squiggly guitar solo emanating from the pint-size speaker. HOW COOL IS THAT??? AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS. This pic is of the jam pack two pack which came with formal dressed B&T, two guitars, amp, and connection leads to walkman (not included) ![]() and here's Ted on his own (in allegory to Alex Winter's ascent into obscurity): ![]() So, what amazing old skool toy do you have (or had) and why is it so cool? |

Nice link! That website is great! I was surprised to find the Jam Pack was not widely available - guess I was lucky to get mine! Nice to see the Evan Dorkin interview. He comes across pretty abrasive, just like when I met him at an early London COmicon. What I did score was a bunch of original pages and covers from the Marvel comic book series, includind the splash page of the B&T Bogus Journey adaption where they encounter death fr the first time. Did you read that? Favorite part: when Death gets a job at Chuck E Cheezes (or something like that) and when teh boys take him to see Planet of teh Apes, and he freaks out at the ending when Taylor discovers the statue of Liberty. Damn funny! |

HILARIOUS! I just finished watching Planet of the Apes like 15 min. ago! I love these figures, I totally remember them, and see the loose ones around when I hit some old toy shops nearly all the time! E. Dorkens commentary on the Space Ghost DVD's is pretty funny, but I can't say, until now, I've read an interview with him. Cool. |

Excellent topic. My most favorite old school toy and newest purchase is the Gabriel 10" Lone ranger figure. I remember getting this toy for Christmas back in 74'. And to this day it's still my favorite toy of all time. i ended up buying a box of loose figures on Ebay and have been cleaning them up and moding them a bit. ![]() |

Wow. One of my proudest moments ever was when Evan D. put my band's name on a t-shirt in one of the Bill & Ted comics (pathetic - yeah, but hey . . .) And who didn't love Milk & Cheese and Pirate Corps? |
