Post subject:  "Imagery of Japanese Toys" Show at S7 - CLOSED!!!

Guys,

Glenn and Brian have come up with a brilliant idea to have a Toy Photography show at Super 7 on April 18th titled: "Imagery of Japanese Toys". Yes this photography show is the same night at the custom toy show. It's a party!!

This could be the very first Japanese Toy Photography show of its kind!!!!

I have been asked to help out with the show and we thought it might be fun to include boardmembers. We would like you to consider submitting one or two framed pieces for the show.

You will receive 60% of the sales price of any of your pieces.

Basic show info:
When: April 18th (Sat) 2009. Art needs to be at the shop April 13th.
Where: Super7 retail outlet 1628 Post Street, San Francisco, CA 94115
Contact: (415) 409-4700 email: glenn@super7store.com

Toy Photography Guidelines:

1. All photography must be framed and ready to hang.

2. We would prefer that all toys photographed be of Japanese origin (but email if not)

If you are interested please contact Kirkland ASAP to participate: toybotstudios@yahoo.com

Please include your name and board name.

Thanks to Glenn and Brian for this opportunity.

FAQ:

Q: What kinds of Japanese toys? What about S7 Figures?
A: Generally speaking, any toy that is accepted on Skullbrain makes for a good subject.

Q: What are the size requirements of the piece?
A: Up to you! They can be any size big or small. Just make sure they are framed and ready to hang.

Q: What does "Ready to Hang" mean?
A: It means there is some kind of hardware on the back of the frame that we can use to hang it on the wall

Q: Who decides the price?
A: You do! You get 60% of the sales price. S7 keeps 40%

Q: What resolution should the pictures be?
A: Up to you

Q: Can I just email you the photos?
A: NO. They MUST be framed and ready to hang

Q: Where do I get my pictures printed and framed?
A: Use the "Imagekind" Service on Flickr. They will print, frame and send your photos to S7 for you. Easy!

Q: Can i use Photoshop, or other software to enhance my image?
A: Yes! You are free to do whatever you want with your images.

Q: What are the minimum requirements for the book submissions?
A: No larger than 3900 x 3300 pixels. I'll resize your pics for you

Q: wow, there are a lot of people participating. Will there be enough wall space?
A: maybe. I suspect many will flake and not send in their photography or it won't be framed, etc. There is no guarantee that your photo will get on the wall either.

Q: How many pieces can I send?
A: At this point, with so much interest, we are limiting it to one (1) piece each. Email if you really want to submit two.

Q: Hey! What happened to the Book and Deck of Cards?
A: After further consideration, it would be best if we had permission for each toy designer / manufacturer for the book and deck of cards. Realizing that would be difficult, if not impossible, we are not going to produce a book or deck of cards.

Q: What happens if my framed photograph does not sell at the show? Will it go on sale online?
A: Looking to Glenn to see if S7 will sell the photographs on the webstore or not.

Q: What if my photograph doesn't sell at all? Does S7 keep it?
A: No. It will be sent back to you at your expense.

Are we allowed to have photo montage/illustration work? The toy will be photographed then manipulated.

Can we have extreme closeups w/ crazy PS effects?

Or what about toys in erotic situations?

it's not a contest. it's a show so go ahead and put something together.

I think all we would ask is that its an interesting shot that is somehow related to a Japanese toy.

If I were to say that I was interested and then wasn't pleased with any of my photos and didn't send anything in would that be really bad? Seriously. Because I'd like to attempt, but I'm not going to send something in if I'm not pleased with the results. I know that'd be really crappy to do in most situations, but this seems like it might be a bit more casual where my flaking might not really have an impact?
Maybe I'll just take photos and then if I get some I like then I'll contact you about participating...

yes, please participate. like anything else photography is very subjective. you might think it looks like poo, but others might think it looks great.

That's true, and too often the case. Which is why I've never publicly shown of my "artistic" endeavors - if I don't like it I'm not gonna subject other people to it!
But I'll see if I can borrow a good DSLR camera and take some photos. It's been about 8 years since I've done any photography, and back then I did everything in a darkroom!
