and no people from the board were there. So figured I'd share what it was like. A couple of months ago, we decided to host Johnny Cupcakes on his Suitcase tour. (Check out http://www.johnnycupcakes.com/tour/ for some info). We knew of his great brand/t-shirts and his crazy fan base. Also since johnny is a old straight edge kid, he and I had a few common friends. Win/win situation. Well people started getting in line on Thursday night for the Friday event. At about 9 pm, I stopped by the store to check out the line and there were about 10 people in line. We brought them snacks as we knew it would a long night for them. By 10am the next day there were about 20 or so in line. I had expectations but was blown away to see the biggest line Japantown has ever seen. By 6pm, an hour before the event even started, this is what the line looked like: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the scene inside ![]() I snapped a photo as Johnny got stopped in the mall for an autograph as we went to go get some food before hand. ![]() Here is the line at 12am,( we didn't leave until 3am) ![]() General count at end of the night. There about 500+ people for a "low key" event Despite whether you "get it" or not. Johnny is a very nice guy(he stopped and talked to just about all 500 people) with an incredible work ethic. If he is coming through your town on the cupcake tour. Stop by and say hello to him and his staff and tell him Super7 says hello. PS- I love you guys and all but maybe we should stop making toys and start selling "Brian Pancakes" shirts. ![]() |

The Dallas event was crazy. Not nearly that many people, but way more than I figured for our useless city. The mrs. and I spun by about an hour before the event and decided that even though the potential for new shirts was nice, it just wasn't worth standing in line with that many hipsters. We opted for beers at the pub instead. |

I was at the Houston tour stop and it was nuts. Can't believe how many people came out of the woodwork to meet Johnny....it was cool to see so many supporters of the brand. Had a really good time and got some delicious cupcakes too |

what is the quality like on a $40 shirt? Are they made exclusive for him? Or are they just $1.00 beefy tees? |

They are not cut and sew t shirts but are higher quality blanks. What people paying for is the design and scarcity(small runs numbers), not necessarily the quality although that helps. I'm sure some of us know that feeling. I know for a fact there is one very very dedicated JC fan on skullbrain. I won't out him but he looks kind of like this: ![]() |

HAHA! It's true, I love Johnny Cupcakes! Quite a few years back he put up my band when we played in Boston. I've followed him very randomly for the past few years but I've really grown to like a lot of his stuff. Some of his designs are hit or miss but overall I like the majority. He puts a ton of work into his brand and as Alex said he takes the time to talk to every person that comes to any event he puts on. I saw him lecture here in Arizona a few months back and it was great. He stayed until sometime around 2am, and then took all the late night people out for milk shakes, if I didn't have to work the next day I would have gone. And just a small note, the print quality of his shirts is top notch. If memory serves me right he prints on AA shirts as well. There are also a lot of cool little additions to the shirts, packing, special variations and so on. I'll post some pictures. |

He is a really nice guy. When his store opened here in the city, we stopped in once or twice a month to see what new stuff he had in stock. The bakery theme is cool, and the shirts are pretty great. I have a good red sox themed one, ryan has a shamrock one, and I think the others we gave to friends. The cool thing about him is that he will remember you, and one night he pulled us aside and asked what we thought of his new Halloween shirts before they were being sold. Personally, I think the newer shirts have designs that cover too much of the front of the shirt, but to each their own. The more minimal designs are pretty great. Nice event you guys sponsored, looks like a great time! |
