Hot on the heels of their superb Gappa figure, Dream Rocket just released Barubagon (aka Balbagon) at Wonderfest 42. I'm really liking this one.

I rushed to grab the Maxtoy x Dream Rocket GID version this morning. It looks spectacular in Maxtoy's promo photos:

Pardon the hype but in my humble opinion, this neo kaiju company doesn't always get the notice that they deserve. When I received the Gappa, I realized that photos can't really do justice to the complexity of the sculpts and the remarkable effect of the thoughtful paint jobs. Barubagon looks to be another winner!

 X 10

I had no idea that Max Toy Co. was offering their own version of the Balbagon- that one kills! Even more than the glitter black version from Patchi Summit.

So beautiful- someone flip me one!

You're becoming quite the DR collector, xoconostle... hmm.. competition.

Oh no ... don't hate me for loving this stuff! :-)

I figured there's no way I can compete with the ardent RxH, SB, or even Blobpus collectors, so I've kinda gravitated to a niche love. :-) Thing is, I feel like DR never lets you down. Even if you don't like all their colorways, the sculpts are so detailed and the figures have so much character. I don't care if they aren't the coolest company of the moment. I dig their monsters.

I just became a Maxtoy Clup member very recently, so I'm assuming that this was first offered to club members. Four extras were put in the web store this morning. They sold out very quickly.

Not hating, just kidding. It's cool to see someone else gushing over these pieces, which are often eschewed in favor of the more popular companies' toys, I think. The Counterattack Doguma is still one of the prized pieces in my collection.

Ergh, just can't believe I slept on this one. Oh well. Hopefully we'll see more than one GID release of the Balbagon, similar to the Gumos.

Reviving this topic as the GID Balbagon is in hand and the blue will be here soon. I just Google-"translated" the DR site and came across a cool tidbit. The monster is in part inspired by Harryhausen's Gwangi, which also accounts for the blue coloration.

As I recall he's not consistently blue in the movie, but you get the picture.

Check out this review for some great photos of the DR/Maxtoy GID version including glow pics.

If you didn't have a chance to pre-order from Kaiju-Taro, they have both the pupil and no-pupil blue versions in the store now.

I had a hard time holding back. The paint work on those looks really good- more iridescent than I had originally thought.

Yeah DR seems to be really into metallics right now. Fine with me! Glad to hear you didn't hold back akum6n. :-)
