i don't know what they go for and someone just offered themto me at that price.

thanks for your input!

Which ones are these? Offhand, I would say that is not a good price, but some people might pay more for the iridescent purple Pop Soda Dogs.

I would recommend determining a toy's retail price (even if the toy is sold out) as a gage to determine fair market price.

Then, you can look for a few ended auctions or surf the web to see the prices the toy is fetching on the secondary market.

With this info, then you too can determine if a toy's price is good or very very bad....

Price is high I'd say, too high. Maybe the Pop Soda versions might go for more like that...but even then...this is one of Real Heads less popular sculpts. I;d say hang on for a better deal...but, pah, what do I know know? :D

thanks for your advice. as far as researching the secondary market....of course i checked in at kaiju taro and they sold for 6,800 yen apiece. to say that is a good basis for what to pay now is like saying mrbunny sold for $50 last year and so, i wouldn't pay much more than $75. original selling price is not a good way to guage current value. none that i found have gone by on ebay in the past 15 days so that venue is not helpful. i have seen a few go on yahoo but i can't remmeber for what price and haven't seen any current, i think one was in the 30,000 y range.
that's when i turn to you guys becasue this sort of thing gets traded here often and i was hoping someone on here could tell me what they just sold them for or bought some from somebody.
of course, anything is only worth whaat someone is willing to pay for it. $280is a little steep for me...figure $30 of that is shipping and that makes each dog to be about $125, which sounds like it could be about right

all those words and you never told us what color way the set is.

Comparing Mr Bunny isn't applicable IMO - the Mr Bunny price spiral is a perfect example of what we've tried to prevent happening in teh Jp vinyl scene. You would never see something made in such numbers go for such an insane mark up in this scene. Obviously there are excptions, but they are exactly that - exceptions for a one off or a super rare release.

IMO Don't buy into the hype. Contribute positively to the scene by sensibly choosing whether to spend mega-bucks or not.

By the way, that's more of a generalism for me. In this particular case I think the price is too high, but if u pay it I don't feel it will have a marked effect on pricng of these guys - cos basically, not that many people are willing to spend $ on this sculpt anyway.

Gage means to estimate. You are trying to estimate if you are getting a fair deal.

>they sold for 6,800 yen apiece

So, roughly, the figure sold for $60.

The price you quoted - $280, divided by 2 = $140.

That tells me the sellers wants more than double the asking price...

oh, the colorway is the same as the ones at kaiju taro. so, i'm new to all this kaiju stuff but isn't it basically the same model as th eother vinyl stuff? once the item sales out,it seems they trade for roughly twice what they retailed, at least on the bay.
and again as far as the starting price, you can't use that as a basis becasue you have no idea if the thing has gone down or up from where it started...make the wrong assumption and you've made a huge mistake. sure, it's good to know what something retailed for but i still say you can't use that to determine current market value.
and like i said, i thought it a bit steep but that's why i came here,to see if my assumption was correct and several of you have verified that. what i'm also getting here is that it wasn't a very popular sculpt among this group. ii think they look rad. but not $280 rad.....
....while we're on the subject, the new gatchamon WHF set of 13 colored minis....any idea what these sold for? i've got an offer in on this as a set and can't find anything but singles and matched pairs on yahoo.

Try and look at this statement from both perspectives, playdoh.

I would hope not.

Sorry to be so blunt, but are you sure you're not fishing around for aftermarket sales prices?

Post subject:

be as blunt as you want liquidsky....i have nothing to hide and am no hypocrit...what i stated at the top was the truth...a man is offering me these items at this price and all i want to know is if it's fair.

i'm not in the habit of "fishing." if ii wanted to know this for the seconadry market i would state it as so. you're awfully suspicious and ready to call "flipper" or whatever it is that's in your mind and i don't mind stating that i'm slightly offended.

i came for knowledge to protect myself in a deal, not to have veiled accusations leveled at me.

You say that you've got an offer in on a gatchamon WHF set of 13 colored minis, but then you're asking for prices? If you've already submitted an offer then why start asking for prices? I'm confused.

Author:  playdohpunk [ Mon May 07, 2007 2:22 pm ]
Post subject:

i have made one offer and was turned down. iihave made another offer and am waiting to hear. should it be turned down and i'm allowed a third chance, ii would like to know what is a resonable offer. not like it's any of your business but there you go, ok? not fishing

If it's a full set of painted Gatchamon minis Series 2 from the WHF, it's worth a lot. Not very easy to assemble a full set of the painted ones.

However, I saw an entire set of the green un-painted on YJA the other day for 6,000 yen BIN.

purge yourself of any angst and put me in contact with the seller so I can take a look on your behalf.

Yes, I can confirm that the unpainted set goes for around JPY 6000.

The painted singles go for about JPY 2500 when paired with an unpainted single- thus, I would assume that the painted singles are worth about JPY 1500. To extrapolate from this information, a painted set should go for at least 1500 x 13 = 19500, about $170 at the current exchange rate. Possibly more, given that there is additional time and effort in acquiring a full set.

On the other hand, you need to take into account the fact that the painted singles are more common in the 2nd Series, than in the 1st. So it should not be as much as a full set of the 1st Series painted versions.

There are a couple of these guys that are fetching mad moolah. In particular the RxH and Skull Toys. Before I turned away in disgust, the RxH was up to 11,400 yen last night. Skull Toy will go for less...but not by much.

dunno....full set....? $300-$400??

Really. Good Lord. I laughed at people who snatched them up at like 7000-ish on Friday night.

This is why it seems like such a useless exercise in attempting to price something after retail.

If you go to school and work part-time, you're going to have a different perspective on what is a reasonable price versus someone who's making three figures and alot of disposable income.

And then the marketplace usually spikes after a toy sells out only to cool down to more reasonable prices later on.

I'm just a cheap bastard.

Seriously, though, I think prices will go down a bit after a while. There seem to be a whole lot more of the painted versions this time.

Post subject:

yes,,they will go down a bit in price assume...atleast for the fluro greens

but not too much....have you ever seen the first series painteds for sale??

by the looks of it,,i think they did about 20 of the paint version this time...
forget which companies in particular,,but i saw a couple gachamon painted armies up on a couple blogs over the week,,and they all looked to have 20painteds in the army...

and who knows how many of the solid blues exist??? there seems to be less of the solid blues around,,atleast on yja...

those solid blues look like they would be fun to paint,,,even for us lame amateurs....

ye, i too noticed the skull and real head minis fetching extraordinary sums for what they are, yet on the opposite end of the spectrum, tttoy and others barely fetch 1000 y. it's a tricky balancing act figuring what these are worth but judging from the inputi've recieved here, I'm going to offer $250 for my final offer. if it is refused and someone who is willing to spend more than that would like a shot, I will reveal the person and how to get in touch them with to that person.
