tokidoki is latest designer to jump into the mixed bag that is the Kaiju for Grown-ups series. Looks like T9G has done a good job with the sculpt.

It's definitely got a "cartoony" feel to it, but the sculpt is pretty nice. I'd be interested in seeing how it will look with some color.

I'll probably rub someone the wrong way with this opinion, but in my opinion, there aren't many toy-associated designers less appropriate to be designing "kaiju" than Tokidoki. As some at another board agreed, this proto looks like he took elements from other urban vinyl toys and threw them together. The sculptor did do a good job, but the design? Meh. Maybe there's some story to the piece that would give it some depth of connotation, but frankly I doubt it.

I did like Kozik's two KFGU sculpts but for some reason the KFGU project makes me feel like a grouchy traditionalist at this point. Maybe if I go out and buy some vintage Bullmark I won't feel so grouchy. :-)

ITs true ... KFGU is like the first kaiju hit to bring KRiddies to the dark side.
(but is also like the cover band that just quite diddnt make the call-back)

Tokodoki was the last western designer I would expect to try his hand at kaiju.

stick to smiles and big anime eyes and freakin puppy dogs, simon.

Hmm, ok. I guess I'm in the minority in this crowd.

I've actually been waiting for Simone to do something toy-ish, not in the way of the cactus-girls/dogs thing. I like his busy designs, but haven't seen anything to initiate a purchase yet (Adios is pretty cool).

I'll reserve judgment, but I'm very curious to see how the rest of the sculpt and paint turns out.

i like the pattern designs but not into the toys at all

this design looks pretty stale and played out to me. and yes, very western

I kinda like it. The sculpt by T9G really helped bring it from 2-d to 3-D very well. It would even be cool if they offered it unpainted in that Castelene green color :D

I can see where it's getting a bit of kaiju influence, but this really looks like another western vinyl toy to me. I haven't even been into kaiju that long, but the new KFGU sculpts are starting to bring out the "grouchy traditionalist" in me as xoconostle would say.

Not my kinda sculpt here ! It looks a little too western to me.
It seems like KFGU's is all about churning out colorway's as fast as they can while a toy is hot. I'm starting to even loose interest in the Tankizaado wich I feel is a GREAT kaiju sculpt. The sixth colorway is not even very interesting in my opinion.

Hmm. That's very interesting. Let me ask you this Shape. If it was a Japanese sculpt by say SB would it be still be perceived that they where just turning out many colorways to take advantage of the skulpts popularity? Not starting crap or anything just curious :)

The ONLY KFGU figure I like is the Usagi-Gon, the rest really just don't a thing for me.

Thats true alot of Japanese Co's put out alot of colorways and that seems to be the trend more than ever . I only buy what I like anyways . I just felt like the Tanki and all the other KFGU sculpts were released in different colorways at the speed of light. No biggie though, just an observation :D

I agree with shape, they do release the color ways at lightning fast speeds and they cost about 20-25% more. In fact the Usagi was the figure that broke me (and many others) out of our completism haze.

I'm reserving judgement until I see what is going to be coming out of the obvious cutout holes on the side.

I won't reserve judgement.

ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This is the reason that I don't buy into the whole East/West fusion thing except for some unique instances: Biskup comes to mind.

The thing that bothers me about KFGU is that the timing of the releases have no significance, Since they are not sold at toy shows like most Kaiju the rhthym just feels wrong. One of the underappreciated aspects of the scene is the way an artsist mixes and matches his figs as he drops them. Kind of like a slow motions DJ if you think about it. I think real head and Gargamel are really good at the ryhthm and variety in which they drop figs - like breakbeats. Blobpus (bless his soul) is more like four on the floor techno. Any other analogies spring to mind.

I like the sculp, but color, size and if it's clear will seal the deal for me. I like many of the KFGU figures, but sometimes hard to tell until you get them in hand. For example, I didnt' think I would like the Usagi Gon as much as I do. It's a really cute size. On the other hand, I thought the Gaburin was the best since sliced bread, but when it got here, it's just too big! Kinda same for the magma...
