Okay, Knewnan got me started... it was an innocuous lunch invitation, but now I'm intersted in starting off slowly (LOL) into the world of SB. I'm kinda thinking of starting off with a theme... either red pieces or ghost fighters. I started with the standard V-day ghost fighter, and want to build from there. Can anyone offer me any words of advice? Thanks! |

I'd browse whatever Super 7 has in stock right now - great prices. Also check out Span for a cool selection online. I think the recent Devilock Skull Bees, and the Atmos Pumpkin Heads are great figures, and right now relatively easilly available at retail- but they won't always be. Also, check out what people are selling on the boards here - people are pretty fair on Skullbrain. Next step: Get a Skullbrain tee! (warning: biased opinion) |

I think it's a good idea to focus your collecting. I am only collecting Halloween-themed Secret Base figures, for instance. I also try to limit myself to one of each design, two at most. Besides collecting only one figure and the Halloween one, I can't think of many other themes though. Going with one color or one color combination is an option. Of course, you could also stop while you're ahead if you're not in love with anything else. I think some people just keep buying stuff out of habit and/or boredom. |

I started off buying the Convention exclusive Ghostfighter. I knew nothing of SB but for some reason that figure really drew me in. I did some digging and didn't care of most of the other figures. Then the more I looked into it the more I got drawn in. Now I'm hoping my tax return is large enough to cover the hole I've dug myself into by buying SB nonstop. Weee.... Welcome to your new obsession! |

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Every time I've done something like this, counting on future money, I wind-up getting less than even my lowest estimates. I have knack for jinxing myself/not learning a lesson the first time. |

My real advice is to pick a figrue or two and limit yourself to them. The ghostfighter is a good one because the majority of the figures were released in the states. I think the more color variations of a figure you have the cooler they look. |

Hmmm... maybe ghostfighters and obakes... Okay, next question: I've seen some figures that are ghostfigher-like... they have similar torsos, but different head pieces... are they considered different lines, or are they all considered the same? |

It is pretty much classified by the head type, a lot of the figures have different bodies, but the head determines the figure. |

Older skullwings seem to popping up more now, since the two Horror versions have added some hype to that headsculpt. Ghostfighters are probably always going to easier to get, since they seem to always be an S7 collaboration release. Not as many new Skull brains and Bees lately though. There definitely need to be more Barbarians and Madmantii. |

Just to warn you!!! I also decided to start a "Theme" collection myself a few years ago. I chose to collect what I really love and that is unpainted glow in the dark. The challenge of finding these pieces is great, but the drawback is that, glow toys are usually the limited or very limited show releases. Thus the price is usually jacked up. And now, with the "art-toy" craze, everybody is putting out glow toys. And being the psycho I am, I can't pass on any of them. (proof of this will follow tomorrow when I post pics of the glow in the dark Jesus Astronaut I picked up last week) But on the other hand, I have with only a few exceptions stuck strictly to my non-paint glow theme!!! Good luck and enjoy the ride!!!!! |

locomoco you're really fucked, I started off "slow" a couple of weeks ago. Now I've got 3-skullwings, blobpus + chicken fever too start. The detail and finish on these are so fucking insane. Good to see you over here L'moco. Locomoto, out. |

I wouldn;t say your are fucked unless you want them all. If you just want a few to start off slow, figure out what you like and don't like, there are quite a few affordable figures to round out your collection. Once you pick a direction, then finding the rarer pieces will be tough, but isn't that the case with any collectible? Plus, half the fun is tracking them down! |

brianflynn wrote: I wouldn;t say your are fucked unless you want them all. You will want them all. I got all the figures I had been looking for from Frank. I less than a week I had made a new list of figures I wanted. Brian is just trying to be nice, he is like a vinyl pusher. Once you have gotten high on the good stuff it is hard to turn back. You are 6 months aways from selling you Huck Gee customs to buy a few rare SxB figures. I buy figures now without knowing their names, run numbers, who made them...ect. It is wondeful. |

I agree, hunting down and finding these things within one's price range is the best feeling! although dropping a small fortune and getting every figure you ever wanted all at once has its perks too I'm sure! ![]() |
