Newest sculpt from the talented folks at Dream Rocket.

From the URL I'm assuming that its name is "Gabari." Can any Japanese speakers confirm or deny?

What to you think of this figure? I like it but it looks sort of hard to display unless in a Detolf-like glass case or in an open area, so that viewers can see it from all angles. Looks big. I really like the colors on the head and can imagine lots of cool colorway possibilities for this guy.

Yep, Gabari it is. Last of the Akakage set.

I'm not too crazy about these colors, but I'm sure they'll release a couple more. Need more Gappo colorways, too.

Oh yeah! I don't know why that sculpt wasn't more popular. Maybe it's one of those "you have to see it in person" toys.

I agree this looks Bandai-ish. It's not really grabbing me as a "must have." LOL ... it's got an articulated backside.

It looks weird. That's why I like it.

The colors are cool too. Head and "tail" contrast nicely with gray-tone body.

Now that's some junk in the trunk. A hottentot version of a Bee-g-Ol-Booty. That or the creature is merely imploring us to "Quick, get this off my ass!" in Japanese, of course.

I'll take two. And call me in the morning, once I come down off my buzz.

I saw it. Don't know why I didn't pull the trigger. Maybe it's the colorway or the bad case of hemorrhoids it's got. I may have to hold back for a clear or GID version and see if I like the sculpt better.

saw it this morning as well...sculpt didn't excite me enough to second guess myself not picking it up - it is just not as strong a sculpt as the Dream Rocket Jyacoe figure

Same here. I want to like it more than I do. Maybe if I knew more about the inspiration or origin of the critter. Looks hard to display well.

I want this to complete my Akakage set, but it really doesn't grab me. The color scheme on the Parababy version was a lot better, in my view (although this one looks to be closer to the original show colors).

Still waiting on a Ganda, Gappo and Gabari to love...

Gabari is one of the need to see it in person toys. I felt that way with the big owl guy to. I wasn't so into the gray body on this guy, but when I got it in my hands it is a lot more detailed than the photos do it justice. So far, I don't think Dream Rocket have put out a dud yet.

You're completely right. Everything they make is excellent in quality, color choice and paint application. I'm just trying not to pick up more than one colorway of each sculpt if I can avoid it.

Or maybe I should sell everything else, and be a DR completist. Hmm....

Good point 3x3is9. Gappo is one of those toys that doesn't photograph nearly as well as it looks in person. You don't really get that "flapping wings" curvature or the beauty of the metallic hues in photos. Maybe Gabari has a presence that photos don't convey.

OK, I have a Dream Rocket question.
When they do a guy like this:
Image
It looks like they have made it with transparent sparkly vinyl, then filled it with dark vinyl. Is that what happens? I've never seen one in person. Is it actually a 2 step process like that? Are they solid? OH the wonders.....
thanks

Sparkly vinyl then they pour paint inside. coat, and pour out excess paint.

I think the sparkly Jyacoe looks like one of those jelly worm fishing lures. Like this:
Image

That's not to say that I don't like him -- Because I do.

There's some things I really like about Dream Rocket stuff, and some things I really don't like -- Jyacoe's scrotum tail for instance.

Gappo has always been my favorite and I would die for a GID version of him. I mean, they have multiple GID versions of some of their toys, why not even one of him?
