Post subject:  New Toy...thoughts?

Hey all, a friend in Japan asked me to post these pics here of a new figure his pal is releasing at Superfest this Sept. I think it is about 7in tall and looks to have magnetic feet. Anyway, I think he was after some feedback so feel free to comment. It's not really my bag, but sort of reminds me of microman etc.

looks like a white one and a clear blue one with mixed up parts.

looks pretty interesting. I might be down for the clear blue one depending on the price.

I wish it was cool...

seriously though it's almost cool and I think that's what sucks about it..
it looks like a some Kaiju that would be in the next installment of Toy Story or something

The face is too piggish

I am digging on the white and blue colorway

It doesn't please my eyes, but that's not to say that it may not please someone else's.

Aesthetics. Tough call. I think Gary Panter is god. Other's think he's shit. Who's right?

Whatever the case, I do hope the guy does well with these. Always good to see a fellow artist prosper.

Not much into the design, but I love the idea of magnetic feet (if that is in fact what's going on in the 2nd to last pic).

I like the design -- but to me the white plastic looks "cheap". What this needs is either more color or something to give it more of a "mecha" look -- maybe a bit of metallic flourishes. I will agree with Frank, though -- all clear would be kinda cool. Maybe a "phase" version or something.

it's based on those old ARK(probably getting the name wrong) die-cast guys. You know with the chests that open up with firing missiles and shit. i think it's a rad first effort and great homage to the toys this guy loves. personally it reminded me of microman Timanic, now they finally have a monster/robot to fight.

I really like these. 7" tall sounds good. I'm interested in what the price point is too.

Remember this? Sounds like it will be sold at the upcoming Superfestival 44.

More pics are up on butanohana's site, interestingly enough.

Is it plastic or vinyl?
I think I would like it more if it was all one color. Its got a retro feel, like the Ark die casts mentioned but the legs really do not seem to match the body to me.

Biggest issue - looks like its wearing diapers.

This is really wild, and the magnets add extra coolness. I'd love to see it stuffed with chrome innards.

Definitely reminds me of Ark stuff, but also makes me think of Machine Zaurer.

Try suspended alluminum + translucent blue or purple.

Looks like it could support an extra set of arms on the torso...got some holes under the arms...

The white puts me off a bit, as does the blockiness of the figure...I like a few more curves in just about everything...

like everyone, price point would be a major factor on this one...it's not bad, but it's not a "gotta have it" type of thing either...

Good work, and good luck!

Translucent blue with black is the strongest in my opinion.
MIght be best targeted towards kids rather than adults who collect "toys".

agreed on the feet. that is a nice touch. good to see something different. not sure about 2 tone, and its a bit blocky for my taste, but i could see people being interested.

also, the torso, seems a little small for the legs/waist. i think if they were the same size, it would look a bit less out of proportion.

You could probably take all of the clear parts from both and make it into one all clear mecha crapzilla....
