Post subject:  HMV Zag guts question...

Hey everybody...

So I got this thinking it would be easy to remove the guts and have a sweet pink and black zag...but no luck. The guts are actually harder than the vinyl of the Zag.

It's not too bad to keep them in...I love the piece...but would rather have the option to take them out...so, anyone know how I could do it? I'm afraid to screw up the paint job on the arms and legs when removing them...so I think I'm stuck...but if anyone has any pointers, let me know...

the usual hairdryer blast isn't making it soft enough? try blasting the neckhole for 30 secs or so on high.

the HMV corporate monster might come and eat your toes if you attempt to take out that logo! be careful!

I know skullbrain stands behind the hair dryer.

I do think its the best way to go, alongside putting the item in a sealed plastic bag, then submerging in hot water for a few moments.

the problem I have with the heating process is this: once the procedure is complete, the vinyl has obviously been misshapen and changed. its hard to get the exact form as before, therefor the joints can fit aqwardly, other bumps/melts can leave the figure slightly off. I am probibly a bit more protective of my figures and try to keep them in their original shape.

in this case the guts seem to be larger/ than the neckhole? the old ship in the bottle problem, where the neck will most likely see problems. my personal advise would be to leave the guts in and leave the figure as is, might not be exactly how you like it, but you dont risk damage. -matt

although, in this case it may be worth alittle risk to get rid of that logo!

I think Koji removed his (he has a pic of a HMV zag with custom guts on his flickr).

You could try shooting him a PM and asking how he did it.

Shit I never thought of that! I don't MIND the HMV logo guts, but would way rather pop them out and opt for some GID BB's or something, if this works well I NEED to get one!

again, the piece is still cool as is...and I had to have it for my pink vinyl collection...but i'm sure it would be better without the logo guts...

I'm gonna ask koji what he did...and then weigh the options...

the paint is pretty fragile on this...so I would not want to screw it up in any way...

I haven't yet, but they show up on YJA for OK prices, like $120ish. I wouldn't pay more than that myself, maybe when payday hits I'll try to hunt one down.

The guts are put inside the figure after being heated with a hair dryer. To remove them, you can do the same. Just heat the figure up really good, and everything pops apart easily. I wouldn't worry about damaging the figure, more damage will be caused without heat.

Alright already - I'm ready for some pics of the gutless Zag! I'm thinking this is probably the best looking Zag once the guts are removed.

Seriously -- If I had even thought of that in the first place, I would have probably tried to make this one my first Zag. The skeleton guts would look absolutely fantastic in him.
